afternoon All,

there is a local fellow that's been bringing a lot of net lists to our local Tuesday evening games. so this Tuesday i want to put him in his place (a bit). I had a bit of a thought about it and i've decided on a double defender OLeader build as follows:

Omega Leader
Comm relay
Juke
Stealth device

Ryad
VI
Tie/X7
Stealth device

Vessery
Adaptability
Tie/X7
Twin Ions

99pts neat.

the challenge is he's been running a double you boat Fenn build. so stripping tokens then blasting away.

any suggestions or modifications?

So for the first build, I would drop stealth on Ryad and give the engine Mk II to her and PTL. That puts you at 100 (unless you drop Mk II on Vessery). I don't think an initiative bid is going to help much. And Vessery x7 is pretty decent even with only an Adaptability. That said, I'd think about dropping stealth on Omega ldr to give Vessery Juke.

And if you are going against Fenn, whisper without vi is not going to be a good match. And system officer on a Phantom is a bad idea. (You do not want to limit/telegraph your whisper moves) Intel agent is good but the top lists seem to have Agent Kallus instead.

Make sure he isn't cheating and using deadeye on those u-boats. The fact that you're struggling with a u-boat list makes me wonder if he is.

Also, definitely the first list. It isn't perfect, but the Whisper setup in the second list is suicidally bad.

I played this list a couple of weeks ago, and I tabled all my games without loosing a ship. Vader can shut down a lot of PS9, and it doesn't really matter that you miss the initiative bid with PS11. And it's not too vulnerable to stress control either, as Ryad can use PTL more sparingly if need be, unlike Fel, who really needs to hit it every turn to trigger his ability.

I agree that VI is bit pointless on Ryad, and putting Stealth Device on O Leader and Ryad is debatable. On one hand Stealth Device is a great defensive upgrade, on the other hand, it's expensive, and you're sinking a lot of points into pumping defence on ships which are reasonably survivable anyway. Those points could arguably be put to better use elsewhere.

Fenn Rau is going to make mincemeat out of Whisper with only Adaptability. He'll be taking damage while he is decloaked. He needs to be PS9 and have a good initiative bid to make sure he can shoot first and recloak before he becomes a target. I "kind of" see what you're getting at with Systems Officer, but you might find that on the Phantom, it's quite difficult to stay in the kind of formation where you can use it effectively. Personally, I'd avoid Whisper at the moment, as he's too vulnerable to stress control.

If you're worried about stressing out Ryad with PTL due to BMST in your meta, she's also great with Juke, I don't see much point in VI on her. But on Vessery... especially if he tag teams with O Leader.

I also like Smacks' Vader. He's shooting first, ok?

no he hasn't been running Deadeye as of late. just all three with seismic torps and every big asteroid he can bring.

i like Whisper and i can pilot him very well and keep him alive for most of the game.

@Smacks. i've ran that list previously and it could do the job but i really want to smack him down with an unknown/non standard go to list.

You could always try a 4 TLT spam list. That always throws a spanner in the works.

Mmm there you go. i thought that Whisper was male and Echo was a female. grand scheme of things it doesn't matter.

i could if i had the models to do so. Predominantly imperial with a small lot of scum, slowly building those guys up atm.

Well that was an interesting game.....

I did end up loosing but I only lost to 2 hull left on a B wing.

so he didn't end up bring the U boats. instead he brought Farlander with HLC, Nera with plasma torps and a TLT Y wing. Came down to Nera and OLeader but couldn't quiet get him in the end.

If you want to try something a bit different with O Leader and Ryad, you could take Jax as your 3rd ship. Having O Leader and Jax in the same list is super irritating for your opponent, as it constantly deprives him of tokens. Then you can put Opportunist on Ryad to punish him for TL actions. Even if he wins, he'll hate you.

Juke is also powerful on Ryad, the only problem is at PS5 she might be forced to spend her evade before she shoots, so Stealth Device is definitely worth it there, but for PTL/Opportunist I'd go Twin Ions.

I've never had any success with interceptors. i just can't seem to pilot them. a mate of mine is brilliant at them though... but i shall try it out
