Subject: Can humans be dreadnaughts?

He folks, I was wondering if it was possible for humans to be interred in dreadnaughts? Are there any examples of it in the fluff?
A bit of background: I am currently converting a hamadreth into a helbrute for my night lords army and was thinking of keeping the female body on the hamadreth in place. My idea was that she was a Sister Repentia who was captured by my band, converted over to the NL's cause, became a revered warrior in the band and finally interred into a dread that eventually became a helbrute.
Any thoughts on why this would/wouldn't be possible?

They used to be able to, in some of the much older Dreadnought designs back during the Unification Wars. However, most patterns (including the most common design, the Castraferrum Pattern) are designed solely for Space Marine interment.

Um. Chaos dreads are rarely a honour for them.
More a punishment.
Like tortured souls, trapped, maddening chaos...
Not a loyalist honour.

Yes, there have been some examples, such as an Inquisitor who "obtained" a dreadnought to plug himself into. I'm trying to remember if that was from the Inquisition War, the or one of Abnett's books, but it's definitely there.

With regards to Chaos dreads, they're generally more seen as a necessity at absolute best, more often as eternal torture for the one inside, not something you'd plug someone into because you revered them.
That said, nothing in the fluff says its impossible to plug a non-Astartes into one.

The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts. |

Yeah, agree with most of the others about chaos dreads. One of my little headcanons is that my dread is a loyalist SM who was stuck in there and is now utterly mad.
About the dreadnoughts, it should be possible. I remember in necropolis (GG) there was a regular human in a fluid-matrix like they use for the dreadnoughts, and he was capable of controlling dozens of servitor things so I don't see why it couldn't be done. Probably the best two bets would be an Inquisitor taking means to keep himself alive, or some planetary hero being suspended in some matrix and being reawakened to save people (king Auther style).

A Callidus assasin gets put in a dreadnought in the Inquisition wars. They're far more enhanced then humans but still.

His pattern of returning alive after being declared dead occurred often enough during Cain's career that the Munitorum made a special ruling that Ciaphas Cain is to never be considered dead, despite evidence to the contrary. |

If I recall correctly the Guard sometimes puts outstanding heroes into dreadnoughts, but I can't recall the source.

Well, being a sister repentia who went to the bad side, she is a glutton for self punishment. Good to know the mechanics are possible. Thanks everyone!

I know that ordinary Humans could be interred in Dreadnoughts back in the Rogue Trader era. But I don't remember which edition they changed it to make it a super-rare event. The Second or Third Edition, I'm guessing.
The RT-era Dreadnoughts in question:
In this pic, one of the Dreads has an Imperial Guard paint scheme:
The modern Castraferrum Pattern Mark IVs or Mark Vs can only be operated by Astartes, however. (To the best of my knowledge). I don't know about the Heresy era patterns.
