Necron player, here. I used to always run Wraiths with whip coils for that sweet 'treated as Initiative 6' goodness. However, my [inexpert] reading of the recent FAQ seems to suggest that the new charging through terrain overrides that back down to 1? Even despite the wraithwalk and coils?
Is that true?

I assume you're referring to:
"Q: Do Canoptek Wraiths and C’tan suffer the Initiative penalty when charging through terrain, despite their special rules which allow them to treat other models and terrain as if they were open ground when moving?
A: Yes."
If so then yes, your inexpert reading is correct.

Not according to the Draft FAQ. Apparently even though the unit considers it Open Terrain, it still Assaults as if it was going through Difficult Terrain.
Chalk up another "we're not bothering to review the rules they are talking about".

The original Wraith actually were I6 in their base statline and were 1 wound Jetbikes. The last codex changed them to Jump Infantry, gave them a second wound and made them I2.
The current codex made them T5 Beasts.
Wraiths have been all over the place and keep getting better. At this rate, they will be FMCs with 2++ by 8th ed

The Necron Codex says Whip Coils increase the initiative with 3, 2+3=5, So not sure how you get the to being initiative 6..
Sorry, Dident mean to jump in off topic like this! Terrain does lower them to 1.

I thought I would let this thread die, and didn't want to respond and resurrect... but that seems to have been the wrong choice!
So, to clarify, I [OP] misremembered the wraith + Whip coil initiative value as 6, when in fact it is 5. I apologize for the confusion this has caused.
Let's let the thread (and my embarrassing error!) die... (unlike Wraiths which are nearly invulnerable, it feels!)
