Are any of the super heavys/LoWs (chaos/renegade knight, kytan daemom engine, greater brass scorpion) a viable option from a competitive standpoint? If so what's the best way to run them?

I want to say that a Renegade Knight is your best option... But I don't know KDK that well. So hold off on any purchases until those with more experience weigh in.

Renegade knight or Kytan.

Renegade knight gives you lots of options for weapons and load outs. Double gatling gun is nasty work.

Kytan can be used for the Trinity Blood formation

Armies:
The Iron Waagh: 10,000+ 8th Edition Tournament Record: 4-7-1
Salamanders: 5,000 8th Edition Tournament Record: 4-2
Ultramarines: 4,000
Armored Battle Company (DKoK): 4000
Elysians: 500
Khorne Daemons: 2500

The problem with a Renegade Knight is it is a separate detachment and faction, so no Blood for the Blood God. A FW Chaos Knight Paladin (or Errant) of Khorne, however, gains BftBG if taken in a Khorne Daemonkin detachment. Same is true for a Kytan. Both the Khorne Knight and the Kytan are nasty pieces of work, and fairly durable as well thanks to a 5+ invulnerable save on all facings (the Knight still gets his 4+ Ion Shield on one facing).

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

I feel like having bftbg is absolutely necessary. I think you want to constantly be summoning things to help offset the amount of points you spend on a LoW. My big question is whether the kytan or the the chaos knight is better to build around. Kytan seems like the way to go if you're expecting alot of sh/gmc. But the knight seems like a better choice against almost everything else. Also the greater brass scorpion just looks so sweet, has anyone tried using it?

Chaos Knight /w Daemon Knight of Khorne is an easier option to buy/build as you can just use an Imperial Knight kit and "Khorne" it up with skulls/spikes and such. And the PDF is free from Forge World's website.

I just used one this weekend and it never got it's points back. They were too ready for it with the number of bike grav spam, numerous melta spam, Dark Eldar Lance shots, poor shield/daemon save rolls etc.

In all honesty, because of the way KDK works, dumping that many points into one model is counter intuitive in the first place. Then you factor in the huge number of things that can destroy it from all angles in today's meta and you're looking at a model that just won't live up to its points (or past turn three if that).

Now, if you just want to have fun, go all out with a brass scorpion because that thing looks fething amazing.

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

Greater brass scorpion or An'ggrath. They are both massive models and so fun to use in a game. However they are quite a points sink so aren't the most competitive lords of war.
If you want competitive LoW I would go with a chaos knight with a mark of Khorne: relatively cheap compared to othe LoW choices and can bring the D to the party.

Does anyone know if legacies of ruin can be taken in regular games now? The one that gives all khorne daemons within 6"(I think it is) +1 invul could be quite competitive.

Brass Scorpion does work. Although I've only used it in the hell forged hunting pack but it really brutalizes infantry with the extra stomps. Plus it's shooting weapons are fairly useful.

Renegade Knights can plug the shooting phase hole in your army really well since you have pretty much all the options Loyalists get, especially the anti-air and ability to crack AV14 from range. It also.doesn't cost a bomb like most other Chaos LOW options and will allow you to field more normal units to overwhelm the enemy in melee like you normally do. It's best to leave melee to your Bloodthrister and friends since they're the ones getting bonuses from BftBG.

Well a RK it is what it is.. like you guys said it does not generate blood thit points but kdk need that kind of support..

Instead of a renegade knight try the actual knight of khorne, theres a data slate out there somewhere that gives the knight BFTBG explicitly. Not as many options as a renegade but that 5++ all around and in cqc comes in clutcher than expected. It also combos well with grimoire and invisibility if you want to be Chucky-cheese about it.

-Just FYI i dont think you can run aggrath in a kdk army in any meaningful was as IA13 states that it needs to be at least 25% of your army cost.

-Having used the scorpion all i can say is it does really well against stuff smaller than himself but that I3 and lack of BFTBG is a dagger.

-Agreed on the chaos knight especially since it has BFTBG explicitly.

-Legacies of ruins can be taken in regular games afaik(IA13). My favorite tactic for awhile was setting up a laser destroyer with that exact legacy (first war of armaggeddon i think?) next to 3 soul grinders and giving them all 4++. Such a pain to kill for the other guys when you have 12 AV13 HP's all with 4++
