Hey folks! Brand new Necron player. Looking to make the decurion detachment!
I played the army and game about 10 years ago when I was 14 and I'm trying to get back into with some friends.
Got a hold of some units off ebay and got a small army off a guy in my friend circle for a reasonable price.
Here's what I have to work with currently:
Overlord x1
Warriors x22
Scarabs x6
Immortals x8
Tomb blades x3
Spyder x1
Deathmarks x10
wraiths x3
monolith x1
With these I'd like to make the list iv linked above. Ive not played a game "yet" but my buddy has almost got the last of his eldar army and so has my friend playing space marines.
I'm just wondering how this looks to you guys and if I can make it any better with specific items or weapons I can switch out or take.
I also put the deathmarks into two squads of 5 instead of a squad of 10.... not sure if that better or worse.
Iv got a little bit of a budget left for a couple more models, with what I currently have... what should I do next???
Also... If I will be primarily fighting Eldar and space marines, and perhaps Orks and tyranids. What would be the best tactics to approach and units to buy next?
Thanks guys!

Be sure to start the monolith in deep strike reserve to keep from getting shot off the table first turn.

Go for 2 units of 5 death marks. It will give you more options with them.

Keep that spyder out of sight too, drop the scarabs to 3, and give the wraiths whip coils I5 .

I like to run tomb blades with shield vains particle beamers and nebloscopes for some 3+ S6 AP5 ignore cover goodness for 72 points. Maby add another unit of them as well.

That's great advice, thank you! I'll do what you suggest and I'll see about getting my hands on another unit of tomb blades! Iv'e got a budget of about £45 left so I can for sure make that work!

Thanks

Some suggestions.

Deathmarks I find have a hard time making their pints back. Don't get me wrong, when they're awesome they're awesome. Like when a Dreadknight deepstrikes next to you then, because of their special rule they show up enemy turn, two squads of them show up without scattering too bad and delete them. Or when the put the 2+ wounds on say a wraithknight regardless of toughness. But these are very situational and have to have a series of things go right before they have a chance to do damage. Even then they are stuck in a ball formation the turn they arrive so are probably dead. Any blast weapons will have a field day.

Tomb blades are great and I also run mine with shield veins, nebula scopes, and particle beamers. Can't have too many of these. Great for objectives and mobile firepower which necrons lack.

Get some lychguard. They are phenomenal bodyguards and if the enemy gets too close they are a very capable close combat unit.

Destroyers en mass are great, without cover they rip through space marnies and force eldar bikes to jink. I really have fun with the justicar battalion. Even flayed ones have a place these days.

The most competitive formations are commonly believed to be the canopteck harvest, destroyer cult, and justicar.

Monoliths are very fluffy and look great on the table but they are not competitive. You want to deepstrike them but they have no way to avoid scatter unless you bring living tomb. Even then you risk mishap with the obolisk. There are just more effective ways to spend points but if you want to run it in a friendly environment go for it. Some of the problems are the particle whip is ordinance so you have to snap shot the sponsons, also the footprint is too big to allow it to be mobile, and lastly it's a vehicle so melta can blow it up easy av14 or not.

Against Eldar, they're going to try and spread you out so that their mobility can set the tone of the game and they can pick you off one unit at a time. So, stay together and focus one flank. Tomb Blades are a good unit to have against them, because they get up in their face. The Deathmarks will also be pretty helpful here and the Monolith's Eternity Gate. Space Marines are a relatively easy match up. Just play to the mission. Necrons have more endurance and you can win by attrition. Lychguard and Praetorians are good takes against Marines. Wraiths will cause them no end of frustration as well. Orks are actually a very hard match up for Necrons, because we don't have the Flamers and Blast weapons to deal with all the boyz, so you want to spread them out. They will demolish one of your flanks, so just accept it. After that you can keep them boxed in to deny the other half of the board. Warriors are very good to tar-pit with and Immortals with Gauss will shoot them dead in droves. For Tyranids, if their swarm, the same tactics as Orks apply. If their big bug, you want Elite units like Deathmarks, Lychguard and Praetorians. Focus fire one big bug unit at a time and you should come out on top.

I hope this helps!
