Hey guys,
Simple Question: Is there a possibility that there is more than one World Engine?
I understand that these thing would be rare and that a functional one would be even more so, but I get the feeling that there is definitely more than one. Am I right in this?
Cheers

Sure. Why not?
The outsider is supposed to be trapped in a Dyson sphere, and that's way bigger.

I figured it might be one of those things that GW intended it to be a one-off.

No hard fluff either way. Its possible there are others or perhaps it was a one off creation by a crazy cryptek.
Perhaps the Crons dont currently have the resources to build another one since they're still reawakening.
Perhaps the others if there are any havent awoken yet.
Who knows!

There's Iori Delta Tove. Planetoid size at least, phases in and out of existence, usually appears in orbit of a populated system. It then might shift the orbits of the planets a bit, alter the history upon a planet or the whole system, or both. Then pops out of reality to back in and just be a more subtle problem for the Imperium

Gods? There are no gods. Merely existences, obstacles to overcome.

I don't think you know what you think you know, baby, but baby don't you think that I know what I know maybe!
On-topic, I'd imagine there are no ACTIVE World Engines at the moment. Otherwise, Necrons would be crushing face a little bit more than they are now. But more dormant ones, or more waiting to be built? Sure.

Dont see why not.
Whos to say that the moons around crown worlds are not indepeantly mobile. Or various dead planets arn't world engines its just that no more have been reported in the imperium and a lot of necrons hang around the edges of the galaxy where there are lots of minor races but no imperium (yet).

There's port maw: http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Port_Maw_(planet)
An artificial planet the Imperium found during the great crusade. It's now the biggest starport in the gothic sector.
EDIT: theorised to be an abandoned world engine

His pattern of returning alive after being declared dead occurred often enough during Cain's career that the Munitorum made a special ruling that Ciaphas Cain is to never be considered dead, despite evidence to the contrary. |

I recently read the Ben Counter novel, and while it differs a bit in some regards to the short story in the Codex it does offer some inside into how the World Engine was built. My memory is a bit fuzzy since the book wasn't that great in places, but if I remember right the Necrons were only able to build the World Engine thanks to the reality-bending powers of the C'tan. Specifically, it is implied that only one C'tan had the knowledge and power to create such weapons. One of its shards is imprisoned on the World Engine and a lot of the plot revolves around it. Its heavily implied that this is a shard of the Void Dragon, and that would make sense given that we know it was a master of technology.
So I would venture that yes there could be more World Engines out there, but that they are not something the Necrons can produce en masse (with the Void Dragon shattered they probably can't produce any at all now). The best case scenario (or worst depending on your perspective) is that the armies/dynasties under the Void Dragon's command had several of these colossal weapons in their armouries. They probably didn't have an excessive number of them though given the sheer size of the thing, and the resources required to run it (the World Engine had several small dynasties operating it under one Pharon). I would also argue however that they were likely a high priority target for those Eldar who went around destroying tomb world's after the War in Heaven.

Its a hard one to run even for the Necrons.
Crew, resources. Fuel, power suplies.
Even they need alot of logistics to run a planet sized weapons system...
These things are likely like impirum building a phlanx.

The Necrons by some fluff decommissioned the most god killer class weapons of the wars in heaven, could they be a rare pattern of the super heavy weaponry that they had.
Given the nature of them. They could of been a rare weapon further back and rarer still after 60 million years where old ones now planets are found to be unable to function or too much effort yo operate. Or of course targeted by eldar. The Eldar had very few blackatone fortress. They could be a similar class of the heaviest duty weapons..
Nerd a fairly powerful dynasty to get one fully manned and battle ready.
A ramilese starfort takes alot to operate, so does phalanx...there similar class ish.
It makes sense there rare.
