Hi all.

So continuing my trend to build slightly odd armies and conversions to match I found out that you could make Imperial Fists Thunderwolf Cavalry from Dracothian Guard, Forge World Shields and Thunder Hammers who I think will look very good on the board.
The problem is that I like Devestator Centurions as well so to resolve this conundrum I had to make two CAD's but I think it will work out all right.

Space Wolf CAD

Battle Leader: Thunderwolf, Thunderhammer, Storm Shield 145.p

5x Gray Hunters: Melta Gun, Combi Melta, Melta Bombs, Drop Pod 130.p

5x Gray Hunters: Melta Gun, Combi Melta, Melta Bombs, Drop Pod 130.p

3x Thunderwolves: Thunderhammers, Storm Shields 255.p

4x Thunderwolves: Thunderhammers, Storm Shields 340.p

1000.p

Imperial Fists CAD

Librarian: Lvl 2, Auspex 95.p

10x Tactical Marines: Plasma Gun, Rhino 190.p

10x Tactical Marines: Plasma Gun, Rhino 190.p

3x Devestator Centurions: 3x Grav Cannons 240.p

Drop Pod 35.p

750.p

1750.p

So what do you guis think? How will I fare against some of the armies out there and should I change something?

I personally don't think tacticals are worth it right now. Especially with the limit of grenades in CC they are just straight worse than scouts. With your tactics bolter scouts in a storm are just as good at boltering and can outflank etc.

changing to 2 units of them frees almost 200 points. I would use that to increase the size of your T wolf units.

Don't take an auspex when you can take th eye of hpynoth which is 18 inches and just better. I would like to see the bones of osrak in there too since its the best item on your level 2 which can make sure you get that prescience off you need!

I like your ideas. However is the Eye of Hypnoth worth it for +6 inches extra range for 10 points more? Also a problem is that I wont get more thunder-wolf than 8 since it will be rather expensive to convert up more. Also would I not loose out on Objective secure if I went down in numbers on the tacticals. Maybe change some numbers around and get 3-4 units of Scouts in Storms to mitigate this problem. What do you think?

I find ob sec to be good but not often a game breaker. Marines are just not great holding objectives as tacticals are simply too easy to remove. A lot of armies are takeing detachments with no obsec and doing fine. I do find the 18 inches to be better imho. Not a huge change but lets you stay further away with those cents (who are rubbing in CC) YMMV.

I just feel like if you are going thunderwolves then you need to be all in. A 3 man isn't going to make it across the board with enough wounds/attacks to kill much.

I took your advice and made a new list, exept for the thunder wolves who will come later since it would be a monetary issue for me.

Battle Leader: Thunderwolf, Thunderhammer, Storm Shield, Runic Armour 170.p

5x Gray Hunters: Melta Gun, Combi Melta, Melta Bombs, Drop Pod 130.p

5x Gray Hunters: Melta Gun, Combi Melta, Drop Pod 125.p

3x Thunderwolves: Thunderhammers, Storm Shields 255.p

4x Thunderwolves: Thunderhammers, Storm Shields 340.p

1000.p

Librarian: Lvl 2, Eye of Hypnoth, Bones of Osrak 130.p

5x Scouts: Land Speeder Storm, Multi Melta 105.p

5x Scouts: Land Speeder Storm, Multi Melta 105.p

3x Devestator Centurions: 3x Grav Cannons 240.p

Any restriction preventing you using alternate detachments?

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.

That seems much better to me. Better scoring. Faster all around.

my only recommendation would if you could free the points putting armour of russ on the WG battle leader and equipping him with wolf claw and powerfist. You're invuln is one less but your armour is one better (You also get some initiative shenanigans when in a challenge).
You get +1 attack for two specialist weapons and the ability to chose between striking at initiative with re-rolls to wound and +1 str at ap3, or you can blow a hole through something with the powerfist.
Personal preference is to stick this on a wolf lord, which is just a beefed up battle leader anyway.

Also you may wanna check the deathpack formation for SW. the only thing your missing is a wolf lord instead of battle leader. It's not a game breaking formation but you've essentially got the units for it.

I feel like running a single psycher is cute but a lot less than useful. Try knocking down points to add a rune priest on a bike to each thunderwolf squad or drop the librarian. Kinda need to run a lot of psychers or none for it to be truly effective. It's just my opinion so don't take it too seriously.
