Alright so to preface, I have played lots of tournaments and I am coming back from a year long hiatus. Wulfen are a little new to me but so far they've been absolutely devastating in trial play. However, this brings up a lot of new list ideas and a whole new playstyle for puppy players. With that, I need a little advice on how to make use of space wolves now that we have some new toys.

I bring you two lists! Tell me which you think is better, why and what you think I should do to fix either or both.

1) Blood - Unleashed detachment

HQ - 170
Rune Priest (runic armor ML1)
Rune Priest (runic armor ML1)

Troops - 240
Blood claws x10
Blood claws x10

Fast attack - 140
Speeder squadron x2 (melta, heavy bolter / melta, heavy bolter)

Elites - 450
Wulfen Murderpack formation
Wulfen x 5 (pack leader, 2x claws, 1x axe, 1x TH/SS, 2 stormfrag)
Wulfen x 5 (pack leader, 2x claws, 1x axe, 1x TH/SS, 1 stormfrag)

Total = 1,000 points

2) Wolves squared - Great Wolf detachment

HQ - 336
Iron Priest (tempestas hammer, cyberwolf, thunderwolf) - 145
WGBL (2 fenrisian wolves, Thunderwolf, krakenbone sword, Runic armor, Warlord) - 191

Elites - 448
Wulfen Murderpack formation
Wulfen x 5 (pack leader, 2x claws, 1x axe, 1x TH/SS, 1 stormfrag)
Wulfen x 5 (pack leader, 2x claws, 1x axe, 1x TH/SS, 1 stormfrag)

Fast attack - 215
TWC - TH/SS, WC/SS, CS/SS

Total = 999


Plan for list 1 is to use the blood claws to march, take objectives and tie up enemy units while being aided by wulfen who are there to destroy tough targets. Rune priests are there to give the Blood Claws a little more survivability and generally be a pain in the ass if I can outflank with them.
Plan for list 2 is pretty simple... Zerg rush and smash as many things as possible.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Advice...

Ditch the Unleashed detachment - You have nothing coming in from reserves so you receive no benefit by using it.
The Wulfen Murder Packs are formation detachments, they don't fill the elite slot, I'd recommend CAD for the first list with the Murderpack tacked on.

The same is true of the second, it blows but the Murderpack doesn't fill the Elite slot.

Ah... yeah that would be an issue. I suppose it would be best if I ran the second list at higher points value with two other elites choices...

Most people using the Champions list abuse the Elite slot to get Iron Priests on Thunderwolves and have an almost complete Thunderwolf list - Terrifying stuff in low points matches.

The elites ones can't get the special hammer but they are nice on wolves still. I was thinking of just abusing it by adding in two lone wolves or servitors for cheap elites slots. Maybe I can drop a wulfen squad for a different elites choice?

You'd have to remove both and tack them on as a formation detachment if you want to get the Murderpack bonus but if just rolling on the Hunt/Kill table is enough for you dropping a single pack of Wulfen would open that slot up perfectly legally.

Probably still worth it even without being a murderpack right?

Oh and the first list I remembered... I had the landspeeders to be held in reserve as deepstriking so I could just pop them in, move and pop something off the bat turn 2 with no problems. And then of course have them draw fire for a while. That's why I was using wolves unleashed... they're really the only reason.

Now I feel silly. I forgot all about Landspeeder Deepstriking special rules.
