I have a somewhat strange question, what are beings that could rival the 40k primarchs or even the emperor?

I can think of super sayan Goku, but I know almost nothing about DBZ, he could definitely mess up lorgar though...

Maybe superman?

I want to say Skitter, but realistically, no.

Any high level D&D 3.5 Mage, optimized well enough.

Related to that, Pun-Pun.

Edit: Ooh! Saitama!

I dont really think comparing it to anything in DBZ is a fair comparison simply because that entire series is known for the whole, "THIS IS NOT EVEN MY FINAL FORM!!!" Bs IE the 20 million diffrent super sayan level that they keep managing to go to that makes them strong or just strong enough to beat what ever villain they are fighting.

Superman vs Big E? i would say Big E.

Superman Prime Vs Big E? gonna be an interesting fight.

Besides, Chaptermaster SmashF*cker Prime and the Smash crew will still win vs what ever your throw at him.

Maybe not against the Emperor, but against someone like Lorgar, Perturabo or Mortarion? I think they have a chance

You gotta remember, they're pretty distinctly human. They're faster and stronger than humans can really be, thanks to the Force, but then again, Space Marines are faster and stronger than humans too.

I think that, against a naked primarch, they'd stand a chance due to superior weaponry (Lightsabers!) but against a Primarch with actual equipment? They're toast. Lightsaber ain't gonna cut through a Primarch's force field, not when Droidekas have a force field that can stop one too.

Don't underestimate the power of the force...

Honestly, some Primarchs would have their way with Luke/Vader, but a Force-enhanced lightsaber strike (make of that what you will, just throwing gak out there) could likely penetrate a force field, or certain Force powers. Someone like Night Haunter wouldn't find his stealth abilities too useful against the powers of the Force either, so I think a good fight could be had.

The Force doesn't really do force-field penetration. The powers that would penetrate it are pretty much mental only, and are you telling me that Primarchs can't slap down a mental domination? I could see Luke or Vader disrupting their concentration and slowing them down with the Force (it does take effort to stop mental domination, after all) but not to the point of humanity. They'd still be far superhuman.

I've never thought that 40K fluff characters were that powerful compared to various other fictions. Outside of power fields and the ones who have potent psyker power, there is little there stopping them from being obliterated by most conventional weapons.

Their power comes from the tech-halted and rather backwards universe they live in. They survive and are powerful in the fluff because it benefits the storyline/fluff/books/etc. Much in the same way most key characters in Star Wars could be snuffed out by a simple blaster bolt that strikes home, the majority of primarchs could easily be taken out by fairly conventional munitions if targeted.

Outside of the psykers I'd imagine most would succumb to a super hero or even some Jedi as mentioned.

Eh I don't think any old Jedi could do it, definitely EU Palps and Luke though...

Outside of those with strong psychic powers...what is a Primarch? Just a big dude with heavy armour, some self-healing and a bunch of guns/powerful weapons.

That's not really much to go on against anything with alternate power/abilities etc.

I've just got visions of him dancing around big daddy Emperor and his chosen warmaster Horus, maracas him hand, sombrero on, rendering every bolt gun in every legion inert with a click of his fingers and telling the pair of them that humanity is too barbaric to be out amongst the stars, and that they could learn a thing or two from the Orks.

I wonder where a Reaper from Mass Effect would fall on the scale. A little unfair to pitch a starship against a man, but stuff from the Mass Effect universe would be interesting to compare.

I wonder whether Indoctrination would work against Primarchs. Don't see why it wouldn't...

I'd also say that Gore Burnelli from Peter F Hamilton's Judas Unchained would give a Primarch a run for its money. If anyone wants to read a kickass technological fight scene read that one!

Cthulhu would probably swat big E like a fly.

As an Australian, I have to mention Lieutenant Shane Schofield. The mans basically sly marbo in the 3rd millennium.

Actual beings I'm less sure on. It all depends on how each characters power carries over into the hypothetical battleground. Example is mental assaults. In comics they tend to be ridiculously broken, in Star wars they are most effective on mooks, and in 40k anyone with enough gumption can resist them.
I'll have a think about it and try to give some more ideas later.

I'm actually reading that exact book right now. I'd say Gore, or any of the Higher's, from the Void trilogy would be a better bet.

Sauron vs Primarch. Fun to watch at least, because they both have as much power as the plot needs them to.

Mad props for the Dresden Files reference, but I don't think he would stand up to Big E. Based off of the scaling of power in the Dresden Files, your average sorcerer might be ML1, someone like Harry would (at this point) be ML2 (In the earlier books he's 1, but now that he's... For lack of a better word, 'Powered up', he's 2), someone on the Senior Council might be ML3. (Though it's worth mentioning that outside of McCoy and the Merlin, none of the other Senior Council members are renowned for their combat magic, so they might not be comparable to a ML3 psyker on the battlefield.) Kemmler was way ahead of any of the Senior Council members in terms of power, and it DID take the entire council, plus wardens, to bring him down, but part of that was just because he had an army of undead and a league of Kemmlerites at his command to counteract their power, plus he specialized in a school of magic that they weren't really experienced with.

Kemmler would probably be a ML4 psyker, in the vein of Ahriman, though necromancy-themed instead of fire-themed.
Magnus is ML5, and Big E is presumably a better psyker than Magnus. (Not to mention that all the primarchs have a ton of raw physical power to back up whatever raw psychic power they have, but Kemmler is just a human drawing purely on Psychic abilities to bring him up to scratch.)

Now, Mab, with her whole court backing her up? Might have a shot at challenging Big E, though that's a toss-up since we've never actually seen her cut loose against anyone except Titania, who is kind of a mirror-match. Ferrovax, maybe, we've never seen him really display much power either, but Word of God is that he is in the 'Godlike' level of power.

Then again, going by the books, Dresden himself would probably end up winning if he ever went up against Big E, or at least surviving the encounter and bloodying the Emperor's dessicated nose...

The reason I think Kemmler might have a shot is that he's got POOPTONS of death to work with. Remember what Cowl was trying to pull off-becoming a god at Halloween? Kemmler could do that on a pretty-much daily basis with all the people and death in the Imperium.

I definitely think that, if you took him straight out of DF and plopped him against a Primarch or Big E, he'd lose, but give him prep time in-universe? Hold your britches, because it's gonna be one hell of a showdown.
