I am attempting to make a roster in BattleScribe for Dante's army that has Sanguinary Guard as troops but I: can't seem to find Dante anywhere? Is he not in the main Blood Angels codex?

You're talking about the 5th edition codex I take it

He's a lord of war in the latest codex and doesn't make sanguinary guard troops any more.
If you are talking about 5th edition codex make sure the data file you're using is the 2010 codex.

Welp glad I asked before pulling the trigger on a large Sanguinary Guard army.

You can run a formation that is Dante (or The Sanguinor) and 2-5 Sanguinary Guard Squads.

Yeah. It's okay. The squad with Dante is pretty effective if you give them melta pistols because they can fire every turn because of hit and run.

In the Angel's Blade book Sanguinary Guard certainly don't suck.
They're still pricey... but the formation can choose when to arrive and assault when it does (from deep strike).

Assault from deep strike is only truly useful against a few problem units. It's suicide against many other lists.

Yeah ok but I'd say there are at least a 'few problem units' in every opposing list and it's worth assaulting and/or tying them up or killing them.

Well yeah, alot of what the BA get seems to only be ok, but if he wants to just run Dante and some SG he still has the option.

To be clear just because they aren't turned into troops anymore doesn't mean you can't run an army of just Dante and Sanguinary Guard

The troop designation doesn't mean much with formations.
At least with deep strike and jump packs, you can be a bully and stay away from things that mulch you. But being unable to engage MCs is crippling.

My local group consists of a few people who left the game around 5th Edition and just came back. We still use a normal Single CAD Force Org chart as we are still getting used to the latest rules and don't want the added complexity (or having to buy 453 books to have all options) of formations right now.

For Blood Angels you just get the digital version of the Codex and it has everything.
