Hi all
Here’s a few screen shot of the new 'T.J.H Models' kickstarter for next Feb
I’m now putting the finishing touches to each piece before there they go off for 3D printing / proof testing

Each piece will be magnetised together.

Each Tower, Walkway, Handrail & Tower Top are separately magnetised & fit together seamlessly,
Each over lapping to cover most joints for a seamless structure

i hope you like the teaser pics more will follow over the next couple of weeks

i have a question for you all regarding a kickstarter im working on & would like some feedback.
when i started out i though 3D prints was the way to go.

If you were going to invest in my 3D walkways would you prefer......

A - 3D print files
B - Finished 3D prints
C - Resin casts
(if you choose B or C what would you prepaered to pay for a tower & 6" walkway each)

thank you for all your feedback

.

Can you please make sure to include extra long, and clear undersides walkways?

I've noticed a lot of walkways sets have a lot of supports and other stuff under them covering the ground, which creates a ton of ground level clutter and cover points.

How big are those stairs and how wide are those walkways?

Can you safely rest a 25mm model on those stairs?

Can you fit two 30mm models side-by-side on the width of those walkways?

Priced aggressively, I could see myself buying a mountain of these. Agreed with the points above though. Having an "under-area" remain usable space for interesting gameplay and not just rows of silly supports would be terrific.

Their will be 3 different disigns styles & 5/6 different handrails designs

Im unsure what price to pitch currently. What do you think is fair?

Untill i proof test / test print these i wont know if i will be selling finish printed sets

Im up 145 different designs + 23 to finish .... So far

I've gone through my concepts sketches & it will be 200+ files once I've designed the multi part platforms. Which will work out at less than 50p per file.

I have disigned 3" 6" 9" & 12" long walkways (only issue is there isnt that many 3D printers which will print over 30cm long)

But their designed & will be there

Unlike my old MDF KS all walkways are only suported by the towers this time

The feet of the handrail do encroach a little on the width on the walkway ,only get one 30mm base where the feet are but yes you can place two 30mm base's side by side on the rest

The stairs are 20mm wide & open (dimension’s I’ve always used since i was scratch building stuff) & will easily hold a 25mm base.
i haven’t tried a 30mm base on them but i don’t see that being a problem

I mainly aimed this terrain for necromunda, infinity games & even 40k at a push

is there any other sci fi miniature games out there this will be suitable for?

If this is for anything like Necromunda of Infinity then you need some solid surfaces to provide cover from fire.

I know Zealot Miniatures do a great quality 3d Print service (http://zealotminiatures.com/) here in the UK and they've done terrain that I think at least some of which was 3d printed

and I know Hysterical Games also now have their own 3D printer which I think they do contract printing with (I know for sure they do metal and resin casting) and are good value (http://www.hystericalgames.co.uk/)

so worth at least asking about their prices if your current printer keeps messing you about (i'm making the assumption you're paying for it)

I mean your stuff is skeletal. There are no real walls, floors, doors, etc. It looks like scaffolding - temporary support structures erected for a short duration to be torn down after. Platformer had this look, too.

I never really thought about it looking like scaffolding.

The open lattice supports does make it look like scaffolding or gig/ stage equipment.
I originally designed it as a solid support (as you can see in the 1st 3d print)

My main inspiration for the walkways was to improve on the MDF walkways I designed before.
So I looked around & settled on the large tower cranes for the main tower supports & power station gantries for the walkways

I have 3 different support designs

Solid
Lattice
& Solid Lattice

I will post pics

Current working on stackable platforms

Very similar to the tower in the middle of the picture. This time the support will be the core of the tower with no exterior supports as they impeded the game play.
Which will enable stairs or ladders to be put in the middle of the tower support just like the stairs/ ladders in the 1st pics at the top of the tread.

Im getting lots of views but little feedback.
I'd be interested on what you think?

I've just finished the parts for the interchangeable platforms

9" wide Hexagonal all with or with out junctions for connectable to walkways

9" wide x 21" long

&

21" Hexagonal platform with four towers or four 9" platforms with 3" walkway to link them together

Yes that's 21 inches

Currently designing the 21" landing pad to sit on top

All Platforms have stairs in the towers or a flat platform & i'm thinking about putting ladders in the core of the tower as an alterative, what do you think?

I will post pics

Those MDF walkways look fantastic but seem like they'd be a nightmare to play on, especially the multilevel aspect of it. I'd constatly be shifting them around the table trying to position guys in them.

yep
that was the problem with them

All the new walkways are supported from a core tower instead of external supports

I just posted the pic as a rough guide to the size

So, I assume you're "selling" the 3D print files? While these look attractive, 3D printing will limit your audience tremendously. I don't see much advantage in these over normal MDF ones (of which there are a dozen different manufacturers, some good, some bad). For something this "frail", I'd want something pretty darn sturdy.

I do think you need much more cover / solid surfaces.

::sigh:: I had such big plans for those mdf walkways.

The printable ones look pretty good. I wouldn't be interested in just files or expensive prints though. Now plastic molded copies of these designs....that would be hard to resist.

hi elbows

yes to start I will be selling the STL files to start, i've seen a nice 'large' 3D printer I will aim to buy & produce my own prints.

The advantage of this system over MDF / other produces

These are magnetized, completely stackable, interchangeable & very sturdy.
Ive enhanced the MDF designs with extra supports not just magnets. The MDF design could have a 2kg bag of sugar place on top of them.

I think the reason you're getting so many views with so little feedback is that people are seeing that this isn't for a physical product and as the majority of us don't own 3d printers, the content doesn't pertain to us.. I almost just closed it after seeing that it wasn't for castings.. but decided to at least let you know why I was viewing it and not replying.

Also.. the one example of a test print isn't really as tall as I would look for (from the appearance anyway). I would suggest consider working in 3" increments to entice Mantic's sci-fi crowd.

Hi MLaw

I work on the 3" rule as well
All the towers are 3" tall & the tower walkway 3" sq (overall size is about 4"x4"x3")
the walkways are 3" wide then either 3",6",9" or 12"

Definitely casts. I would think prints would be too expensive.

So pay per tower/walkway?

If you were kickstarting these, I would back only based on whether or not it was a crazy good deal. I'm cheap about this sort of stuff and would never pay more to kickstart something than I could buy it from Ainsty, Armorcast, etc for. I understand the desire to get us to help determine a fair market value but you need to do some research as to what's available comparatively as well. I'm certainly of the crowd who believes putting money down on a kickstarter to help someone potentially deliver a product over a certain period of time, then there should be a reflection of discount over MSRP for that. Ultimately, buying Platformer kits or resin kits already on the market RIGHT NOW with 100% guaranteed delivery in a matter of days/weeks cannot look like the more appealing option for you to take this to market.
