Hey guys, looking to start a new allied army. At least until Cult and Skitarii get a single codex, I'm shelving that idea and looking at the new AM boxes.

In short, what's the big difference between the AM and MT boxes? They are both governed by the same codex, right?

Nope. Militarum Tempestus have their own codex.

MT has its own codex but Scions and the Taurox also exist in the AM codex. So if your building a Guard army and you wanted to add some scions to the mix then the MT box has models that are 100% compatible with entries in the guard dex. The formation for the collection in the MT box is governed by the MT codex.

Shenanigans, GW! So what would be the better move? It's really just going to be about a 1000 points max allies, so would the MT Codex be better? Does it have any psykers or fliers in it too?

The MT codex only has Commissars, Scion Command Squads, Scion Squads, Taurox Primes, Valkyries, and two formations in it.

Peregrine - If you like the army buy it, and don't worry about what one random person on the internet thinks.

So it's meant to be a MT stand alone? Not seeing what it really has over the AM codex, which has priests, guardsmen, Bullgryns, etc.

The Scion codex has a scion hq entry, so it is a standalone force.

So it is a lot easier to run only scions when using the codex.

In the AM codex, they are an elite entry in the form of a platoon, so you need an HQ and troops choice using AM, but you can only have the scions when running the scion codex.

So it comes down to personal preference and what you want as allies.

I bought the Scion start collecting box the other week. In fact there is nothing at all on the box or on the formation card that does not allow you to use the Scion rules from the AM codex.
The only difference between the AM codex and the Scion codex is the Scion codex has a different set of orders.

As far as your question of AM or Scion start collecting box. The idea of respawning a DS unit sold it for me

Yeah, I think I'll pick up the Scions SC box and the AM codex, that way I have access to more, but can still run some scions
