Subject: Some questions, current state of the game

When working on creating a war machine retribution warjack model for 3d printing I thought that it would be really easy to magnetize and make it so that it can be used as both a warjack and as a battlesuit. And I am making it into sections that can be cast.
So i figure I have some questions.
What base size are battlesuits again? And if they are 50 mm, would sloped bases be heresy?
Is 40 K edition 7 worth playing competitively? I have heard lots of things about how randomness just destroys the ability to have meaningful tactical decisions.
Are mainly battlesuit armies competitive? I figure it would take very little effort to make some drones that can be cast in three or four pieces in 3d software since they are so simple, and I can just buy some pathfinders.
Would you be annoyed if you saw a bunch of effectively scratch built models if all the weapons looked correct? They would be approximately the same mass as a battlesuit.

50mm.
No. This is not a competitive game at the moment.
Yes, Tau suit armies are generally fairly strong.
No. This game has a specific aesthetic, and has really nice models (From GW and FW). If you're not going to stick to that aesthetic and buy majority real (GW/FW, maybe third party conversion kits) models, why play 40k?

Peregrine - If you like the army buy it, and don't worry about what one random person on the internet thinks.

So using beautiful models is the only reason to play then?
because a model of something like

http://www.deviantart.com/art/Tau-Farsight-Battlesuit-Concept-390352381
is a lot cooler than
https://www.games-workshop.com/en-NZ/XV8-Crisis-Battlesuits
and could be made with a similar amount of pieces and less material.

Think about it this way, would you be annoyed if a guy bought a bunch of green army men and used them for his Imperial Guard army as long as all the weapons looked correct?

I do not think I would be ok with 3d printed models for several reasons. The first is that they almost always look far inferior to the original model. Secondly I am the type of guy who dislikes piracy in all of its forms, for many reasons. I know I am not alone. So you could potentially see some push back with your idea. Or maybe you would not. I know most tournaments would not allow a custom built force. Modified, yes. But scratch built, no.
