Hi, probably an obvious question but after years of playing nothing but Battleforged armies I can't find a straight answer.

In an unbound army, could you take Magnus the Red with nothing else but Daemons / Daemons Formations and claim that Magnus was a Thousand Sons Detachment. To gain the Blessing of Tzeentch rule? Since he would be the only Chaos Space Marine in the army and he would meet the requirements on his own?

Example:

Thousand Sons / Chaos Space Marines
Lord of War - Magnus the Red

Chaos Daemons
Herald of Tzeentch
Screamers of Tzeentch
Some Daemon formation.

Thank you

.. . I mean, technically, he's not in a thousand sons detachment , so can't gain the bonus, but I would probably let it slide.. it's a clearly daft if unbound chaos armies can't gain their legion bonuses.

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

Unbound armies cannot have detachments so you can't call Magnus on his own a TS detachment.
As Bob has said, it is a bit silly that CSM can't have tactics without a detachment but RAW unbound CSM armies can have no tactics.

False. Unbound armies always have a Primary Detachment and is all models of the Warlord's Faction. In addition, Formations are detachments which keep coherency and Special Rules in Unbound.

All Unbound rules affect are detachments with Command Benefits.

Are you a Wolf, a Sheep, or a Hound?

OooooK,

So in the original example, Magnus could get the TS bonus, But only if he was warlord.
But if any unbound models didn't meet the requirements of a TS detachment, you wouldn't be able to use it.

I knew about the formation stuff but I didn't realise you keep a primary detachment in unbound. Well thanks for bringing this to my attention.
