Looking at the new Traitor Legions book, I was, overall, very pleased with this new release. I did spy a combination that seems like a super-charged unit Emperor's Children Chaos Space Marines can now use.

Chaos Possessed have a profile we're already familiar with (see codex CSM)

The Emperor's Children Detachment requires all models to have the Veteran of the Long War (+1 LD, Hatred Space Marines), Mark of Slaanesh (+1 Initiative) & grants them FnP 6+ (4+ w/ Icon of Excess in the unit). Now their profile is (with an Icon);

WS 4
BS 4
S 5
T 4
W 1
I 5
A 2
LD 10
Sv 3+/5+/4+

Combat Drugs grant all non-vehicle models from the Emperor's Children Detachment a result from a D6 table that grants one of the following;
WS +1, BS +1, S +1, T+1, I +1 & A +1. Now their profile is (potentially);

WS 4-5
BS 4-5
S 5-6
T 4-5
W 1
I 5-6
A 2-3
LD 10
Sv 3+/5+/4+

Emperor's Children have access to the Favored of Chaos Formation. This Formation requires a Daemon Prince & 3-5 units of Possessed.
Units of Possessed from this Formation within 12" of the Daemon Prince at the start of the Fight Sub-Phase gain ALL 3 benefits from their Vessels of Chaos rule. This means they can re-roll all failed To Wound rolls and are at AP 3 in CC, plus have +1 A & +1 I. Now their profile is (potentially);

WS 4-5
BS 4-5
S 5-6
T 4-5
W 1
I 5-7
A 2-4
LD 10
Sv 3+/5+/4+

Additionally, the CSM Slaanesh Blessing Psychic Power Hysterical Frenzy grants either +1 I, +1 S or +1 A to a friendly unit for a game turn. If successfully targeted with this Psychic Power & under the influence of the aforementioned benefits, their profile is now (potentially);

WS 4-5
BS 4-5
S 5-7
T 4-5
W 1
I 5-8
A 2-5
LD 10
Sv 3+/5+/4+

Now THOSE are some nasty Possessed; put an Icon of Excess in a unit 9-strong, add an IC for Challenges & MC/Vehicle killing, put them in a Land Raider w/ a Dirge Caster & you got a serious hammer. This doesn't include the Fleshmetal Hide Heretech Blessing Psychic Power (+1 S/+1 T) or the Endurance Biomancy Blessing!

And they still don't have any grenades or mobility. So you have 3 expensive units that struggle to make it into assault and run a real risk of being I1 should they make it. Still not worth the effort I'm afraid.

True - but the IC would have grenades. Also, what isn't expensive in our list that isn't CSM, Havocs or Cultists? ;-)

I see your point, though. This would never work in an ITC setting, but then again I never do tournaments. I play pretty casually, and my gaming group therefore allows more unit experimentation

Even casually though. A unit of 9 with icon is 300 points, three of those and you're at 900 points, that's half your list. Not counting the daemon prince. Now you need to consider how to get them into assault. The most straight forward would be spartans or kharybdis claws, because both fit them and have frag launchers to act as grenades, but they also both come at almost 300 points. that's you're list done, you're out of points. So you don't want that and only make one of the possessed decent, but now you have 300 points of easy kills running around the board.

You need the formation to make possessed useful, but that same formation kills them as a viable unit. The black Legin version is better because it only needs two units and they don't require marks, but it still isn't enough really.

Worse yet he hasn't even purchased a core in order to get access to the drugs...

You need a lot more free buffs to make the possessed profile even remotely reasonable.

I guess crimson slaughter possessed are the only ones who possess a chance to be used.

AI & BFG: / BMG: Mr. Freeze, Deathstroke / Battletech: SR, OWA / Fallout Factions: BoS / HGB: Caprice / Malifaux: Arcanists, Guild, Outcasts / MCP: Mutants / SAGA: Ordensstaat / SW Legion: CIS / WWX: Union

KDK ones, i'd say. As they're a mandatory requirement, unfortunately. And even so, competitive kdk boil down to a dog formation + wizard allies. But if you're not too competitive, the kdkurion can work. And it does require you to waste points on possessed.
