So, did the Deathwing always have bone white armor like they do now or did they get a color change like the rest of the legion after the heresy? If they weren't bone white in the past, then what color was the "old" Deathwing. Any information would be appreciated.

Old Deathwing during the heresy was black just like the rest of the legion.
They painted their armor bone white when they returned to one of their recruiting worlds to find out it was infested with gene stealers. Help was probably not going to come so they ordered and exterminatous be done if their home recruiting world. To honor them they painted their terminator armor bone white to symbolize the death to come.
Well turns out Deathwing terminators are a hell of a lot better in lore then the game, they kicked ass, in fact they kicked so much ass they ended up living from what was meant to be a garunteed suicide mission, and kicked so much nid ass the dark Angels were like damn son! And ended up painting all they first company bone white to honor their badassery

This is what Deathwing Terminators looked like during the Heresy, Deathwing being denoted by the two crossed red swords:

And this is what post-Heresy Terminators looked like before the Deathwing story:

At least that's the story, there is of course debate about whether it's actually true or an allegory.

I might be misremembering but in the current DA codex it mentions that the DA have lots of fake stories to cover up things related to Fallen. For example they might claim their green armour is to remember Calibans forests rather than to distinguish Loyalist and Traitor DA. It makes a degree of sense considering that Caliban wasn't very foresty toward the end.

I don't know the date of the Dark Angel's purge of one of their home worlds in the Deathwing story. That led to the change in color of Deathwing's armor (both in the Lore, and in the game). But, it had to be recent in the 40K timeline. The Ghosar Cult was the Imperium's first documented encounter with a Genestealer Cult. That was only a few hundred years before the current 40K time. Which means the DA Terminators were colored Black for about 9.7K years after the heresy. Officially, black in the illustration on the side of the First Edition Space Hulk box (as above). I think the whole chapter was black in the Rogue Trade book. Don't know exactly when they turned dark green. Changed to white with the SH Deathwing expansion, a couple of years later.

In the story it's stated that the suits had served the Emperor for a hundred centuries, which would put it around late M40. Which of course jars with the fact that two of the three 2nd Founding Dark Angel successors share the Deathwing's colours..
