So regarding the Skyhammer Annilation detachment, I've seen the rules and I can't see anywhere where it species these are Codex: Space Marines squads. So can I take it using Codex: Blood angels units?
More for the reason that the space marine codex sets me back well over a squads worth of cash.
Thanks

No, BA can't use it. Feth GW. We get a bunch of useless formations instead.

Skyhammer should never have existed in the first place.

Generic characters disappearing? Elite units of your army losing options and customizations? No longer finding that motivation to convert?
Your army could suffer Post-Chapterhouse Stress Disorder (PCSD)! If you think that your army is suffering one or more of the aforementioned symptoms, call us at 789-666-1982 for a quick diagnosis!

The icon at the top-middle of the datasheet contains a Faction symbol, indicating which Faction(/s) can use the Formation. Compare that symbol there (a winged skull with a sword through it), and the symbol at the top of any datasheet in the Blood Angels codex (a winged Blood Drop).
More info on Factions and symbols can be found on page 118 of the rulebook.

It's really not that strong when put up against other strong detachments and factions. Should it be used against lower tier armies? Absolutely not, but is it game breaking, not at all.

I've used it several times against the cheesiest of cheese, and mid level cheese. It's just another strong formation, the hysteria over Skyhammer is completely unfounded.

Nothing said here is preventing you from taking the formation. It just so might happen that your Ultrasmurf successors look suspiciously like Blood Angels.

Which is kind of funny, since there is a Blood Angels Successor that thought they were ToiletSeatMarines with a weird gene-seed instability before they found out they were actually Blood Angels Successors.

Funny, coming from a guy who plays an army into being fisted.

I mean, Dorn was into that masochism stuff, after all... :p

First turn assault just ruins the day to many factions. Especially if spammed. It was a disgusting cheesy operation to sell a number of boxes, and it worked.
Not everybody plays cheesy faction. It contributed significantly to the power gap.

Well it'd involve buying the codex as well as the 2 drop pods and 2 devastators I'd need before fielding the formation.
Unless I just used bolter Devastators and than all I'd need would be the drop pods.

Pretty sure most people that field the skyhammer veiw the ASM as a tax on the formation. I know I'm sure I wish I didn't have to bring these guys along - rarely do they do anything useful if they get to assault at all. The relentless devs and the -2 pinning checks is what does the real damage. It does it at the expense of being expensive and easy to come back from the alpha. Killing space marines is exceptionally easy.

If we fail to anticipate the unforeseen or expect the unexpected in a universe of infinite possibilities, we may find ourselves at the mercy of anyone or anything that cannot be programmed, categorized or easily referenced.

I love my Assault Marines in the Skyhammer although I only run them as a 5 man units with a power weapon but its 100 points each of close combat goodness that can be a real thorn in the side of shooting focused units. Sadly I find the pinning to be less useful because so many zogging things ignore pinning because they are either fearless, transport, a bike, MC, or S+P.
