So I have a no-infantry army right now, wondering what army to ally with it. I can tell I've a pretty big gap with the lack of trops, but I'm not adding any to my primary detchement as to keep my command tank my warlord. Personally like the Sisters the best (not for tactical reasons, but fluff reasons) and they have Battle Brothers on the ally chart with IG (or rather Imperial Armour Battle Group). I not to sure I could accept anything outside the Imperium for fluff reasons (epecially the 227th, my personal regiments views on that). If I go for 2k points I got about 300 points to spare for them (can up to 310 if need be but no much more). Currently I see a lack of assualt, capping and infantry as my issues. Note Imperial Armour Battle group FoC MUST not have any troops (like armoured fist squads) if I want my tank to be my warlord, so, not going to add to my primary detchement.
heres the list to help show my issues
Using Imperial Armour Battle Group FoC and IAV1E2 rules and points

How about Cult Mech?

A Tech Priest will repair tank damages on 2+, and the big Robot to defend youself in assault. They are expensive tough so you may need spare a few points.

The Cult Mech is a good suggestion for the Tech Proest's repair rolls (also can get you limited access to Skitarii, which care a great infantry unit)
A Techmarine can also do some repair work and then Space Marines give you access to troops with ObSec, Special/Heavy Weapons and numbers/staying power. Librarians can also give good psychic support.

Tempest scions are a good option. Its how I run my tanks. I take some armored fist squads to defend my tanks, but I have about 45 tempest scions to deep strike in.

Armies:
The Iron Waagh: 10,000+ 8th Edition Tournament Record: 4-7-1
Salamanders: 5,000 8th Edition Tournament Record: 4-2
Ultramarines: 4,000
Armored Battle Company (DKoK): 4000
Elysians: 500
Khorne Daemons: 2500

I ally in Militarum Tempestus for a combination of suicide melta and massed plasma fire. I run the following:

Command Squad, 4x plasma gun - 145pts
Scion Squad, 4x meltagun - 90pts
Scion Squad, 4x meltagun - 90pts
Total - 325pts

The Tempestor Prime can give an order that essentially grants preferred enemy, which explains the four plasma guns. Deep striking them within rapid firing range of a uni and firing eight plasma shots very unlikely to get hot often equals eight very dead things.

Sisters would be cool for fluff reasons, but they don't really bring that much that you don't already have covered.

3,500 (and building) ASM
3,000 Blood Angels
1500 Eldar (abandoned)

AoS - Beastclaw Raiders, Ironjawz, Night Goblins, and Ogors - Destruction remains unvanquished!

This is not true. Ignore the stupid RAW and play by RAI, that the HQ tank has a special rule "this may be your warlord" just like codex IG HQ tanks can be your warlord even if you have an infantry squad sergeant in your army. It's obviously a leftover from 6th edition where the warlord had to be an HQ unit and therefore the problem didn't exist.

Other than that, trim some of the extra stuff (sponsons on a LRBT with an ordnance main gun, the awful Destroyer, etc) and take Elysian drop troops as your allies. With only token infantry you don't want them getting shot off the table immediately, and Elysians give you the ability to deep strike in cheap scoring or melta/plasma threats and/or put scoring units in nice safe Valkyries until the end of the game. Codex IG can also do it with a second CAD if you just want the Valkyrie squads, but a deep striking melta/plasma CCS is a nice threat to have.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

So my CCT can me my warlord even if I have a character

the awful Destroyer
NO!! Do not insult my Stug III! Its look too awesome to recieve any insults (even if it isn't good for competive play)

sponsons on a LRBT with an ordnance main gun
Ok

I know, perhaps someday.\

Thank-you, might use this.

2 for tempestus
2 for the cult
1 for eylsians.

Ok, probably going tempetus or the cult(and its seems more like the former) as they fit more with the lore (of course I could just call my Eysians something else).

Thanks for the help

Bloody SMs!!
No, they just steal all our glory through our scarfices, the Emperor's hammer is far greater and more powerful than any chapter.

Seriously though, I have an odd hatred for SMs, of course I guess I could use them.

Does the Tempestus have its own codex or just the section in the IG codex?

I have heard it generally said that Space Wolves make an excellent ally to the Iperial Guard.

I personally love that you use Exterminators.

Space wolves?
The one chapter I like, could work.

Thanks, exterminators seemed a oretty good choice, depating on changing the LRBT into an exterminator or annihaltor

GENESTEALLERS!!! (references!)

Ah thats going to hurt the luff side of me. There are genestealers on the planet, but the 227th is staying loyal, no questions asked. Plus don't they count as Nids in the ally matrix, meaning Come the Apocyplse?

Probably going to go with the storm troops (scions) as it fits the fluff (which I made for this particular regiment), and seem to fit well with the role of objective takers, with the deep strike, I can throw them in late game to either take out targets of opportunity (if not leveled by the Bassies, Vulture and LRs) or secure/contest objectives.

Thanks for the help, and may the Emperor bless you all.

In exchange for the upgrades would it be worth giving them a taurox prime with whatever I have left to spend on it for my MTCS and switch the vulture with punishers for a vendetta (which can hold 12 models using IA rules!) which would 1. be cheaper giving more points into my taurox prime 2. give me more anti-tank capacity (between exterminators, punisher, banewolf, infantry are in check, bassies I think can do both, hydra is going for the air and troops my CCT and DTH are the only designated anti tank) 3. my 2 scion squads can then ride them from reserves and then drop in to take objectives.

Honestly, Knights would be your best bet. Fast enough to keep up. Tough enough to continue to nullify small arms fire, and decidedly effective in melee.

I mean, it's the perfect fit. Maintains your strengths, neutralizes your weaknesses.

There is a dedicated codex for MT. The units don't differ in stats or cost when compared to Codex: AM, but the orders are better suited. For example, the one that essentially grants preferred enemy for that turn of shooting. I wouldn't be firing four plasma guns at close range otherwise. I do feel a little cheated buying a full price codex for the sake of the single command order that I use (and I've only used that one to date), but I've wiped out squads of SM in a single round of shooting many, many times. As an elites choice, they are still a good option for suicide melta spam and even loading up on hot shot las fire. 'Front Rank Fire, Second Rank Fire' is still a lot of AP3 if you've kitted a command squad out with 4x hot shot volley guns. Flamers aren't popular with Scions, and grenade launchers are pretty pointless.

In general, they're great for dropping in and clearing objectives. I prefer them for that than putting a CCS in a flyer.

I would take a Null Deployment Ally.

Grey Knight Nemesis Strike Force is a good option as they start completely in Reserve and then start coming down turn 1.

Drop Podding Marines is another good option.

Both of these leave you with just the tanks on field turn 1. They will need something with the ability to pop AV 14 if they think they can hurt you.

Well I got the MT codex, so its seems that is the way I'll be going, gonna give 'em a winter camo to fit in with the rest of my (soviet themed) tanks. I'll say they had several of those schools added during the 5 year plan (again soviet inspiration for my regiemnts fluuf, hell their name 227th comes from order 227, 'not one step back').

Hey, I remeber you, jancoran. I couldn't decide what list to go until you told me to commit, well I got my models (which are all tanks!) so I am not changing my list, even if it wasn't the one I had orginally. I recieved a message from the Emperor when I found IAV1E2.

Alas I my question remains, Would this be an ok idea:

Using the Vendetta from my primary detchement, everything else will be allied:

Vendetta (using IA rules to give it 12 models)

MTCS in a Taurox Prime

Tempestus Squad:
(In Vendetta)
Melta
Flamer

Tempestus Squad:
(In Vendetta)
Melta
Flamer

With this I got absolutely no points left (decided to replace the LRBT with an anhillator for more anti tank and no ordance). The idea being MTCS gives orders in the Taurox Prime giving support fire while the Vendetta drops the tropps on the objective, sqad uses meltas and flamers to clear and secure it Vendetta can then provide cover fire or drop the next squad on the next objective.

I just run Orks models and fluff them as mercenaries. Imperial Guard are allies of convenience with Genestealer cult.

Well I am happy to hear that you followed the most important part of my advice which WAS to commit. There is no "wrong way" to play 40K as long as you're enjoying it. I play so many forces from so many factions that what i offer is perspective. If there is one thing i can say for sure, it's that I see way more armies and play way more army variants than most people and I have found that with the right strategies, you can at least be competitive or even win a lot of games just through good planning and prioritizing and timing. Lists are 40% of the fight but being a good general is bigger.

Good luck!
