I don't have the WoM book yet so I'm not sure if its explained there, buy why do the TS sorcerer models on GW website have mutations? I thought the whole Rubric of Ahriman thing got rid of mutations throughout the TS legion?

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

I believe the original mutations of the legion were to do with the sorcerors being overpowered by the warp energy, this meant they could no longer control this energy leading to mutations. Ahriman's rubric then gave the sorcerors the power to master the warp energy but none psykers were vaporised by the power of the rubric.

These mutations seen in the box, I would assume, are controlled mutations that are a choice of the psykers (or a blessing from Tzeentch) used to enhanse their combat, psychic, toughness, etc.

The sorcerers are probably willingly mutated now.

Either that or it just got rid of the original mutation issue.. Not so much future one's, I mean the spell came from Tzeentch afterall..

I like the theory that they're blessings from tzeentch and not negative mutations.

Still, it would have been nice if the exalted kit came with enough bits to make unmutated sorcerers if you wanted.

We all have mutations.

What Chaos has are nightmare fuel tumors and deformities.

The Rubric did protect the Thousand Sons, but it either turned them to dust or amped their powers. The Mutation on the Sorcerers are pretty standard things. All Chaos characters have the option to take a 'Gift of Mutation', but it makes sense that followers of 'The Lord of Change' would suffer from it too. Chaos Terminators also have a mutation part.

It's open to interpretation. My personal one is that the rubric worked and prevented the remaining 1k sons from mutating. But over the years, the legion has had to replenish its numbers multiple times, and the new marines don't have the same protection. Therefore they are still prone to mutations. I also like the idea that others have said about some choosing to have these mutations and seem them as gifts. I'm adding that to my own personal cannon.

I'm guessing that the Rubric was designed more to specifically deal with the inherent gene-flaw of the Thousand Sons flesh change permanently, and that its not a blanket protection against all forms of mutation like that of blessings from Tzzentch or other psychic mutagenic attacks.

Technobabble is a movie thing, not a thing you use in a forum discussion.

This.

Design team be like "This part of the model is boring with no bling and we've been told to lay off on the skulls, just add tentacles, or eyes, or eyes that shoot tentacles."

Helbrutes are really nothing more than drednoughts. They gave them a new sculpt adding in a mutated/possessed look but didn't change the rules or the fluff to reflect this. Everything is the same from back in the day when they were drednoughts. Until we see some rules for them being daemon engines I don't see the difference.
