Just wondering what people think are better? 5 thunderwolf cavalry with powerfist/thunderhammers and storm shields, or 5 wulfen with thunder hammer and storm sheilds with a stormwolf flyer? Both are crazy 2 wound models with 3+ invulnes, TW has more toughness while Wulfen get FNP. Both are about the same price, but not sure which I think are better. What is everyones opinion?
Im just wondering as just found out Im getting the burning of prospero for christmas and not sure how to follow it up!

Depends.
Wulfen buff nearby units, can kill people after death, and can bring some hugh-strength I5 AP2.
Thunderwolves are a little bit pricier, but are consistently faster and work better with HQs.
If you're running them solo, take Wulfen, because characters slow down the Wulfen anc offer limited benefit. If you're running a Deathstar, take Thunderwolves.
Congrats, by the way - Prospero is an awesome box.

A unit that's meant for CC - that never reaches CC - is nothing more than Terminators (lol).
I say, let loose the Wulfen - throw in IC's like Iron Priests or Lords/WGBL's w/ dogs, and make them thick - then charge up their flank and hope for dice to throw.
Wulfen are like Grenades - throw them in, and everything succumbs.
EVERYTHING. They may as well be D.
Having them fly in - means like turn 5 charge on some games... it happens, and there goes what - a third of your list in points, unplayed? I say make your own luck by putting reliable options into your hands, and not letting the dice decide who can play and who has to stay home.
So, a Deathstar Wulfen squad - you get TW models via IC's, and you get Wulfen whom slaughter any and all they touch.
=)

Hahaha Mainly due to their cost, I cant fit both of them in 1350 points with formations or CAD and still give them their incredible weapons.
It seems most people are siding with the wulfen with thunder hammer and storm shields, but what about mode of transport? I know flyers can be rather unreliable due to them having to start in reserves, but don't you think that not only is the stormwolf a great flyer in its own right considering its weapons but also being an assault transport makes it incredibly powerful when combined with wulfen, and garrentee's the charge once its on the board thanks to wulfen being able to run and charge.
I often run slannesh daemons and even my daemonettes with fleet and + 3 to run take around 3 turns to get into charge range and often get shot to pieces, but being cheap and having a static invuln save makes them great, however paying 250 points for 5 wulfen can rapidly go to waste against strength 8 blasts, even with stormshields I can see them being shot down easily without a deathstar.
So what do you reccomend in regards to keeping them alive? what kind of transports or death-stars do competitive players bring with wulfen.

I recently played in a 1500 points tournament as a fundraiser for toys for tots at my FLGS. I took wulfen and Thunderwolves. The wulfen were all th/ss in a pod. All the Thunderwolves had shields. I had a Tlord as well. The most competitive army I played was eldar. He had a ton of scat bikes and 3 squads of str D wraithguard. The wulfen performed well. I like wulfen in pods as it forces my opponent to deal with them or the twolves. I always run them with th/ss. I also played a tau player with 3 riptide. Overall I like the twolves the best cuz of the speed. The wulfen for me were a distraction unit that really surprised me. They always doubled their points if not more in all 3 games I played.

The only difference in my experience is whether or not you can throw an HQ in the pack and be more effective.
Thunderwolves can have an HQ and be better off for it
Wulfen get bogged down by an HQ joining
Personally I love both models and wulfen are absolutely great as a distraction carnifex. If ignored they'll kill anything they touch... If not they soak hits for your TWC.
Generally speaking... TWC are slightly better but wulfen are still very useful so use some of each if you can.

Surround the Wuflen's with large pack of Skyclaw, or just Bloodclaws, that might be the best use of these guys.

Curious. What has been the outcome of your games vs. Eldar and Tau? Automatically Appended Next Post: We have several SW players here.
They regularly take TWC led by a Wolflord. One of them also fields 2x5 Wulfen one of which with TH/ SS. Its a very flexible army with Vindicator, Longfangs, Predator, and Pods with Greyhunters.

I find wolves to be better because of speed and durability, but wulfen definitely do more damage when they get in close.
I've had success with wulfen when I attach an iron priest on thunderwolf with 4 cyber wolves - this let's you charge the priest and wolves ahead and then use pile in movements to slingshot the wulfen into CC. The iron priest is no slouch himself and adds some S10 AP1.
They get into combat just as quickly as TWC and erase anything they touch. You just need to be careful not to wipe units on your turn, because they aren't as durable as the TWC. If you use careful spacing to keep some of the squad from attacking you can usually stay locked in combat until the end of your opponent's turn and then charge something else on yours.

I don't think you can avoid wiping most units.

If the whole squad makes it to combat, yeah you're gonna wipe a lot of things. But if you conga line them far enough apart you can usually keep some of your guys from swinging for a turn. It's far from a perfect tactic but good to keep in mind to prevent your squad from getting lit up on the next turn.

I prefer TWC if I can only take one, but they work so well together I don't like choosing.
Personally my Wulfen rarely make it past the half way marker of the field, so I stopped trying to make them. In most of my games Thunderwolves and Iron Priest packs do the running, Wulfen do the slingshot work then take cover and guard objectives and Linebreaker attempts in my deployment zone.

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go. |
