They've kinda already done that with the "Start Collecting" series.

But, like has been said, there's, historically speaking, been about a zero chance we see a 40K "starter" set that doesn't have Space Marines. Dating back to 2nd Edition, you pretty much have only had Space Marines in boxed sets.

2E: SM vs Orks
3E: SM vs DE
E40K: SM vs Orks
BoM: SM vs Tyranids
AoBR: SM vs Orks
DV: SM vs Chaos
DS: SM vs Tyranids
SC: SM vs Orks
DM: SM vs Harlequins
KT: SM vs Tau

Even the standalone games have Space Marines in them, with the notable exception of Execution Force

ASC: SM vs Everybody
SH: SM vs Genestealers
TA: SM vs Tyranids
LP: SM vs Genestealers
DWO: SM vs Genestealer Cult

Not to mention more amusing ones like Epic Space Marine, Betrayal at Calth, Burning of Prospero, Ultra Marines, etc that featured Space Marines vs Space Marines.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

I took his usage of the phrase "all I can say is" to mean that it was his opinion that her points cost would not be remaining the same. With a bit of regret thrown in as they would certainly seem to be going up if, as many in this thread are suggesting, she becomes a LOW or her Gemini bodyguard become obligatory to field her.

Of course nobody knows at this point, but doesn't it make more sense that her points would go up for either of those things happening rather than she remains 135 points? I would love to hear the wailing if Celestine became a LOW worthy of the name, picked up two kick arse bodyguards and kept her nifty little price tag.

No citation necessary, I don't think thats going to happen

Why not? You know the Space Marines are going to see anyways, so why give them away in the starter. I mean the only people who buy the starters are current Marine players anyways.

On a slightly more serious point, if 8th ends up like AoS a starter becomes unnecessary as all the rules will be free(R). You could end up with smaller starters (not the 's' to denote multiple ones) and every box sold is a potential starter set. The best part of AoS-fication is that a box of Tactical Marines is a starter, as is a box of Eldar Guardiands, as is...

Iain.

Marines sell. That's why. And there is starter set with sigmarines in aos so aos-fication is even more likelm to have starter set with marines.

If GW sticks with the theme of always having SM as one of the armies in a starter box with the FoC and GW guys talking about Celestine at the head of a BT force. It could easily be BT vs CSM / black leigion.

What if they did Chaos Space Marines in the starter?

Still dudes in power armour plus they could replace the current fugly sculpts.

My gut would be very surprised not to see CSM vs SM, however.

But I would love SOB or IG against CSM. That could be a campaign starter with other starters being the 'arrival' of reinforcements.

Sure. That would be SM vs CSM release.

But SM sales>CSM sales=SM are pretty damn likely to be in starter set over CSM if it's only one of the two.

With regards to SoB in a starter box, I can only imagine them being a small unit addition to the obligatory SM force (a la Sisters of Silence in the Prospero box).

I think that would be pretty nifty.

Maybe SM + Ordo Hereticus vs CSM + Lost and the Damned / Renegade Guard.

From the Regimental Standard today:

"The Ecclesiarchy are looking for willing volunteers to join a Crusade of the Righteous into the Ocularis Terribus.*

As you are currently on route to Cadia to take part in a potential live-fire learning opportunity anyway, you will be delighted to learn that you have been volunteered for glory in this Crusade.

The Emperor has bestowed a great honour upon you.

Most Guardsmen only dream of one day seeing a Living Saint of the Emperor, and you get to fight alongside one in righteous battle - and no less a legendary figure than Saint Celestine herself, most holy and beautific of the Emperor’s warriors in the entire Imperium!

You will also be able to witness the glorious might of the Black Templars Space Marines at war.

For those of you who have not witnessed the zeal and fury of the Emperor’s Angels in battle before, this is a rare blessing and we are sure it will be illuminating**.

This is a huge honour for you, but we are sure they are just as delighted to be assigned battle duty alongside [INSERT SACRIFICIAL CRUSADE AUXILIARY REGIMENT HERE], since we all fight in the Emperor's name."

... Anyone else getting kinda excited by the marketing? I mean the fact that it exists and they're going out of their way to say something is one thing but go be given just enough of a tease on what's coming makes me even more excited to see the eventual release.

Even if we don't start seeing more plastic Sisters with the book I am happy to see GW finally doing some smart marketing to let us prep our wallets for releases we want.

IIRC the original 13th black crusade/eye of terror book only had photos of the old metal cadians in but the plastics were released if not the same month then only a month later. I suspect plastic sisters to follow within a couple of weeks from this new book. I've held onto the bulk of my Xmas cash with that thought in mind!

Well the range has been at least partially OOP for a while. Guess it counts as excuse enough to put them as new releases. Especially as it's more easy to promote as something players should buy.

Marketing ploy.

Me too. Even when it implies nothing about Sisters of Battle. Real funny read.

Prior to this Sisters were only being sold in blister packs (this has been a thing since 5th Ed when the last squad packs sold out). GW finally put out new squad boxes again, though the unit comps are frankly not that helpful or useful except to on click purchase a certain group of models. Plus there isn't any savings on a per model basis over buying the blister packs.

It was an attempt to do something fir the army and back when all metal squad packs were still common and the army cost half as much it would have worked. Now? It's an utter flop.

I think this is probably how the starter will turn out.

If the next Black Crusade is indeed the theme for the 8th edition starter, I would bet we will definitely see Space Marines in there (and GW has a bit of a track record with including marines regardless of theme).

However, I have a strong feeling that 8th edition will be more AoS and rely more on grand alliances than individual factions (Grand Alliance: Imperium, Grand Alliance: Chaos, etc). If done this way, I think there is a good chance the starter will contain multiple types of units for the Imperium and Chaos. Maybe some Black Templars, some Cadians, and some SoB vs. some Black Legion, Cultists, and some Daemons.

It does give them a useful get out as they can say that after looking at the sales of sisters after the relaunch and new codex that they do not warrent new plastics. The sales of the fairy/demon/perpetual/saint will be mostly accounted to Black Templars players as there new HQ choice. Sadly I expect the entire SoB order to be wiped out completely along side the cadians and catachans during the fall of cadia.

This will allow the production of a new human based guard regiment with properish proportions and everything. Also it will allow the new faction of sisters of silence to be brought in.

Calling it now.

Your last point is especially laughable and comical, because not only the 7th ed Valkyrie shown dumber things (like being able to throw the troopers without parachutes out of its hatches, no harm done) - Irbis

I doubt Celestine is seriously going to be an HQ choice for the BT. If there is nothing else Sisters left in the book she's have a mini formation of some kind to allow her to ally to BT (and other armies).

Catachans can't get wiped by the fall of Cadia as they are trained/recruited from the Steroid Swamps of Catachan (yes the knife does compensate for something).

I don't see Sisters getting wiped completely. They're stationed all over the Imperium to include Holy Terra and would take an insane mustering of troops to put every single one on Cadia. A mustering that would cripple other warfronts or leave parts of the Imperium unprotected.

Why do some of you pretend like Games Workshop needs or wants to convince itself not to make new Sisters of Battle? Nobody is sitting up there in the high tower wringing their hands saying "I've wanted to get rid of these for years, but I've never been able to prove why!.
