You read the book? Imperial guard are like 2/3rds of Fall of Cadia.
No, but I've been following it, and haven't really seen anyone mention them besides you right now. You may very well be right, so that is a relief.

Hopefully there are some more IG models and releases in the future corresponding to this campaign.

What's left of Cadia

I would love a general Guard line update. New Shock Trooper kits, an updated Jungle Fighters line, plastic Vostroyans, Valhallans, Mordians, Steel Legion etc...

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!

I think the problem with promoting the IG with the fall of Cadia is that it's a lot harder to market them to the adolescent boys market. Your individual guardsman is a lot less badass and capable than a marine, while also being harder to paint well and requiring higher numbers to boot. It doesn't help that the Cadian poster boys are ugly as sin, too.

In order for IG to be appealing, you need to have empathy for the humanity (and humour) of their struggle, which is something that the group who GW considers the core of their market doesn't really appreciate at their age.

All that aside, I'd love to see infantry boxes for more Guard regiments. Beyond Cadians just being ugly, there's just a lot of variety that I feel is being missed out on.

Yeah I really hope they take this opportunity to update the AM plastics. The Cadians have probably turned off a lot of people from doing Guard. Just look at how much better the Cadian Command Squad looks without those balloon heads, brick feet and mitten hands.

Yeh there are tons of guard in the book, but Cadia falls so most dont fare too well. Creed could get a new model down the line.

Thanks for sharing Nicky J.

I was going to ask if the I is an I for Inquisition or a roman numeral 1. I have my answer now. Curious how many books there will be or is it once a month till June?

I am curious now if it is one a month, if 8th will be 8th edition in August.

When is the actual 30th anniversary date?

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Chances are there will be two books for The Gathering Storm, just like there were two books for Warzone Fenris and two for Warzone Damoclese.

I'm intrigued to know how many books there are as well. I do find it kind of interesting that Cawl is standing upon a book with a sculpted "IV" on its spine.

Just saw this. It seems to confirm my previous suspicions that we will get Gathering Storm books with a focus on Combined Factions (Grand Alliances if you will).

Minor Fall of Cadia spoilers follow:

Spoiler:
In fall of Cadia there are 4 confirmed Eldar characters. The first is the Shadower, Veilwalker, who appears a number of times throughout the book. The other 3 appear briefly at the end. They are Eldrad Ulthran (who Cawl recognises), "...a female attired in an elaborate gown who appeared to be directing proceedings...", and "…a warrior in crimson, his raiment echoing the Craftworld Aspect armour and the crueller plate of the Commorite pirates. Cawl found no record of its design, even in the deepest archives."

Also note that DE wyches turn up alongside Eldar at the end, so it seems that all the Eldar factions are best bros now. I'm expecting a combined Detachment in The Gathering Storm 2, and as a DE player I'm not sure how I feel about it yet.

I know Atia debunked it but I keep coming back to that faeit rumour from July. It said the the eye of terror book was the second campaign but it got many of the involved factions correct including necrons. The first campaign mentioned was war of the webway featuring the thousand sons which seems to be the way that gathering storm part two is headed.
There are some details wrong but if that was a wish list, it was a very good one.

Each book has two though. So after gathering storm 2 then we will have 4 more books by that theory.

Two for the xenos, two for chaos. I imagine the Tau and their big plot will have the involvement of them and key players in their area Imperial and Xenos alike. So whatever the other Xenos book is I can't say. It all depends on who is included in the first one.

Anyone who didn't see gathering storm 2 coming has not been paying attention very well.

Anyone recognize that rune? It looks like a Autarch rune, but with the infinity circuit symbol above it. Quick undercaffeinated survey of my shelf doesn’t show a match.

I'm not familiar with eldar lore as well as Tau. I would think it might be a new symbol for the unified Eldar? Unless someone can identify it. I mean it's just an idea.

Not only did Atia, but the rumor itself has debunked it.

It's not a single rune that exists right now.

There are three elements to look into:
The Infinity Circuit symbol(or the "Cosmic Serpent"; I can't get a good still image of it to see whether it is a single interconnected rune or if it has a small 'gap' between the double diamonds).
Striking Scorpion symbol(triangle/delta with the 'pincers' and triple line under the double diamonds)
The 'tail'. Closest match is from the Autarch.

Thousand Sons got plastic. Tzeentch is getting updates. Anything can happen.

"Anything can happen" -Sure, but the probability is just incredibly low. I think if the guardsmen get redone, I think it'll be in the vein of Storm Troopers... something aesthetically new and distinctive with throwbacks to some of these older regiments. GW can write it off as 2nd most common IG gear coming into greater use now that Cadia is gone.

If the Tzeentch update shows us anything it shows GW is still thinking of their kits modularly where a small individual sprue can change the nature of a kit, such as Tzangors is AoS and 40k each having just a one sprue difference, or the way they simply added Deathwatch species to a variety of kits. Where I'm going with this is maybe GW should go back to one concept they had but never fully pursued back in 2nd edition. Before they came up with the different IG regiments we're familiar with, they conceptualized a guardsmen where different, yet aesthetically similar components that could be mixed in different combinations to produce a jungle, snow, or desert trooper etc... unlike then they have the resources to do that in plastic.

Exodites? Or is it referring to the mysterious Eldar in red and whatever he is?

"We don’t recognise that rune… looks like something new is on the way."

I think it's exodites.

It's worth noting that Cadia being gone wouldn't mean that gear would go away.

Cadia didn't export stuff. Forge Worlds supplied them with gear, not the other way around.

Hmm... I still think Exodites are coming. Atia has even said they are an eventuality and now is the perfect time. Other rumors have said there are a few armies left. I think if anything has a shot of appearing it's Exodites. I suppose it could be GW's take on corsairs, but that seems more of a FW thing now.

Edit
The rune is not Exodite you've proven that. I still think it's good Exodites will appear though.

Go to the Atia section and search Exodites and boom. She said eventually but no ETA and that was last year. There is no other more relevant time than now for Exodites to appear. What would the point of a combines arms Eldar race be if it didn't include the Exodites for moving us to 1 minute to midnight in the story? It's also a faction people have wanted for a long time now myself included.

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/448304.page

Edit
I know for a fact if Exodites are released this year I'm grabbing them. It's only craft world kin I find way too annoying. I was planning for a new army release budget this year.

Makes sense. Jan's White Dwarf has something about the Gathering Storm in February as well.

White Dwarf for February is Feb 3rd(Friday)
