Hello! I am going to a pretty competitive ITC GT. Using the new faq/horrors split. I cant take the blue horrors though as a troop as I don't own the brimstones. I have half my horrors painted pink and half blue so can do a split list! (should I take a unit of blues even without the brims just to save the points and then get another screamer/paradox in the list?!)

How is this list? Good enough to be competitive? Is there a better way to get magnus in? Thanks!

Ok so this list starts with 20 charges. Has 3 obsec units. Plan to basically be aggressive with the big man. kairos will try to summon some stuff as will the chaos sorcerer/heralds.

Is this decent? I haven't really played the actual ITC missions so don't know how they play well.

Magnus isnt a legal option for word bearers (no unique units)

You kinda want the blessing bonus for being in a TS detachment anyway, going from a 4++ to 3++ for free is pretty cool.
Ok i say for free, the tax is another .. 35 pts of MoT.
Can be afforded by downgrading some pinks to blues.

Yes. Just take a vanilla Sorcerer with spell familiar and join him to the cultists. He is just a WC battery for FW & Magnus

Speaking of, I would drop 1 unit of Pinks for another disc Herald and take all 3 Heralds in their formation it will get you 3 additional WC, plus another roll on Malefic.
I think you can fit this into the list:

FW
11 Pinks
11 Pinks
8 Screamers

3 Disc Heralds, 1 w/ ML3 & Paradox

ML3 Sorcerer w/ familiar
10 Cultitst
10 Cultistts
Magnus

Any points left should be given to upgrade the Heralds' ML

You are taking Magnus AND FW, of course you are going to be light on scoring. But that is why the Heralds are good, they can summon, but the cheap ones can also turbo boost onto objectives late in the game

I still think the ability to get a 3++ on Magnus just by casting something like force (or, if brave, boon of mutation) is worth the 35 pt tax to turn the CAD into a thousand sons detachment.

I agree. You'll almost always be spending a dice for "Syphon Magic" so getting a 3++ is a no brainer from using a TSons detachment.

Legacy of the perdus rift anomaly. 20 pt tank upgrade. Another .. 90 pts of predator.

If your opponent has something that can alpha strike Magnus, maybe it's worth putting him in reserves. You can always use the FW re-roll to make sure he comes in.

I like your updated list alot and I think if you see Magnus in a ITC event it will pretty much be lists similar to this one. I know it sucks to reserve him against alpha strike armies but for sure you have to do that if your going second but then you have to reserve FW too or he will be alpha struck off instead. I'm assuming you can't use his staff reroll if he off the board?

There you go. Basically you try and jink with the screamer star/let the horrors be beat up (which helps you lol) and then bring them in turn 2. Not too bad.

Does it explicitly FW has to be on the table, or just omit any reference to the rule in the draft FAQ?
Rules that give the player abilities without a reference to the model with said rule having to be on the board are always in affect.

FW gives the player the re-roll and his rule does not require him to be on the board, just part of you army. An FAQ would need to specifically state that FW needs to be on the board. Simple omission is not sufficient to take away permission.

Another example of this is an Eldar Autarchs ability to +1/-1 to reserve rolls. The Autarch is not required to be on the board for this rule to apply.

Draft or not, it's what we have to go by. Best not try it.

I would Imagine having Magnus come in late would still be ok as he could quickly rack up kills and turn the tide of the battle.

We play itc rules here and they don't use the draft I don't think but I appreciate it!

You could give your Pink Horrors a Instrument and an Icon if you want to reserve Magnus. He is a Daemon of Tzeentch so can benefit from them.

Yeah, that would work. Essentially give you 2 rolls for Mangus. 1 for the Horrors and if they fail, Magnus gets his own roll.
