I'm curious what the opinion is on how these two rules interact.

Drop pod assault - Select half your drop pod units rounding up, to arrive first turn. "the arrival of the remaining drop pods is rolled for as usual for the mission"

Speartip strike - Any units with the deepstrike ruke.. can make a reserve roll to see if they arrive from first turn. requiring a 3+

It looks to me that a droppod with the Speartip strike rule (dedicated dreadclaw), could as part of the drop pod assault rule, either arrive automatically T1, or, allow another pod to arrive automatically and itself arrive on the first turn on a 3+ (or automatically if with the warlord)

Do people agree with this interpretation?

They rest arrives from reserves normally so as long as they are dedicated they can come in on turn 1 too. There are some potential issues with deepstriking transports and the speartip though. I made thread about it but it didn't really go anywhere unfortunately.

From the information given and rules i know of it would work like this.

If you have 7 drop pods turn one 4 would automatically drop in. The rest would arrive via normal reserve rules.

The drop pods would not benefit from the speartip strike formation as drop pods do not have the "Deepstrike" Special rule, they have rules that allow them to arrive as if deepstrike, but they do not actual have the rule itself, so they could not benefit from the speartip.

To many unpainted models to count.

Anvillus dreadclaws have the deepstrike special rule, it's only the kharybdis that doesn't (which I would be willing to bet is an oversight too)
And since they are dedicated they belong to the detachment too.
