Okay, I am torn between the following armies. I like them all, and I play for the fun of the game. Thanks for voting!

Any input on why you voted a certain way is appreciated too!

Tau, because Tau are awesome and I am blatantly biased.

Raven Guard, because they're black, stealthy, have badass helmets, and are black stealth space marines. Yes, I said it twice.

Even though I don't play either army I like this logic

Death Korp are about as flavorful as you can get, and play very true to their fluff. Send in the human wave!

Raven guard are the most realistic proposition... And are cool in every regard.

Any of the Space Marine choices are good if you like modeling, as bitz are endless. Krieg looks fething top notch.

K lets be sort off helpful for once. Internet polls are a horrible way to choose your army. The best way is to do your own research, or you could make my quiz and ask yourself if you really want to spend ~500$ on the outcome of it ; )

Do you like to hide in the shadows, or just love black jump packs -> Play raven guard.

Tau but I am hugely biased. I like bringing a gun to a knife fight like Dr Jones.

I have another kind of quiz for you - something I always tell rookies about selecting an army.

1. Models. Which army(ies) gave you the goosebumps when looking at the miniatures? Some are cooler than others, so you might already cross off thçose you didn't like THAT much.
As models will be the main thing you'll work with in this game, you must really like then, or you might lose interest in the long run. This step includes assembling, painting and playing with them.

2. Mechanics. Which army(ies) entices you to play with then, rules-wise? This asks for playtesting with proxies/lent armies and/or watching battle reports (the newer, the better) involving such army(ies). For example, if you really like melee, makes no sense playing a Tau army, while if you love a balanced take, there's no reason to mess with Custodes. This step will save you a LOT of regret lates.

3. Lore. This game will complete 30 years next year. Basically every faction has so much fluff around that people can 'fall in love' with them to the point of joining heated discussions in the internet (check the 40k Background subforum)! You don't need to go such distances, but enjoying the lore of your army will make you more connected to it and proner to vreate fluffy lists instead of just the most cost-effective ones (which are best used in tournaments).

4. Group. If even after those 3 steps you're between 2 or more armies, I suggest you to talk to your fellow mates in your group which armies they play - so, you could pick the one not/less played and add variation to your meta. It's boring when you play over and over against the same enemies!

If you follow this little list, you might save time and money and not jump from army to army in less than 6 months... because I didn't follow this guide when I was a rookie as well. :(

Look at all the options and I'd say try to figure out what has the best models and play style to you. Rules and power fluctuate over time, but the general style of an army stays more or less consistent and at the end of the day you're going to be spending a decent amount of time just building them before you even get to play.

So make a list of what you like and don't like about each of them then compare those lists to help you narrow down the choices a bit.

but if your serious, I wouldn't go with DKK because getting models for them requires selling your house, car, and maybe children to purchase. Some of those armies are for 30k and not 40k so idk where you're going with that. Raven Guard seems the most realistic since they are easy to paint and get models for.

I own a decent krieg army, let me tell you right now, you WILL have to screw around with bending and fixing resin and unless you are going to proxie guns and stuff you will pay thousands upon thousands.

I'd say play raven guard. If your starting out, tau will win you games, but skill with tau doesn't translate well over to other armies. Also a friendly Tau list also make some people squirm who would otherwise be fine with a skyhammer-jetbike-rerolling jink-wolfen cheese list. I literally picked up grey Knights so I'd have something to play with people who hate tau. With how hard it's been for me to pick up other armies after playing tau alone since I started playing a year and a half ago, I have to advise picking them second.

Unfortunately I have decided to not get back into 40k again. It seems that the wife is having some serious issues with it. Whatever.
