Quick question about the leaper unit type for tyranid dimachaerons (forgeworld). It says that if you leap in the movement phase you move 6 inches. Is this an extra 6 inches, meaning this long legged beastie moves 12 inches a turn, or does it simply move 6 inches and ignore objects in the way of its movement?

A friend told me that he played someone who moved it 12 inches per turn and looking at the model it certainly looks like it should be able to move that quickly. However, when I looked at the rules myself I can't help but feel this interpretation is not what is meant and that this beast the size of an imperial knight just plods along at the standard 6 inches per turn.

Attached is the page with the rules on. If this is not allowed on this website please mods, remove it or ask me to, whichever.

If it says they can move up to 6" (and it does) then they can only move up to 6". There's nothing to suggest that 6" is in addition to their normal move.

Side note: how many things use the leaper subtype? Did I miss a major part of FW's rules, or is this a special snowflake case?

The Leaper explanation inside the box already tells you that it moves like a normal unit of its tipe (MC), so it moves only 6". However, it can pass over stuff without problems - it's like a Skimmer MC

Thanks guys, that is what I thought but just wanted to check. This is the only leaper unit in the game AFAIK.

More like a useless snowflake, the Dimachaeron would actually be great if it could actually get anywhere.

Yep, special snowflake rule. It's nearly pointless when its base is so large that 6" isn't going to get it past any models.
