I am looking for some back field Objective Campers for my Deathwatch list.

I was going to go with a couple of solo Terminators but I also wanted to go with a TAC list build. I like having Obsec Drop Pods as well so I was thinking of ideas of how to build a Veterans squad in away so they could pull double duties. I tried a few combos but all seemed to just end up costing a lot of points.

I have decided to try running a Squad of 5 men with Stalker Pattern Boltguns in one hand with 3 Vets carring Combi-Melta's in the other the other 2 guys will have 2 regular boltguns.

This combo works well because I can set up the 5x men on a home field Objective and pluck away with the 10 Stalker Pattern Boltguns the Drop Pod can sit in reserve empty to Pod in later to land on an objective and hold or contest oposing models.

If my opponent has a vehicle or something sitting on its loansome I can Pod them in and go nuts with the Combi-Melta's &/or Bolt Guns and then the following turns I can use the Stalker Pattern Boltguns to take out Infantry etc.

The Squad Including Drop Pod comes in at 200pts excatly.

I am just curious as to how others are using their Stalker Pattern Boltguns and in what kinds of Combo's as there may be some good builds that I have possibly completely ober looked.

Thanks in advance.

This is all in theory, but i wanted to try vets with stalkers in the mid field with the stormbringer squadron formation to rush forward.
Basically, i see the stalker as giving DW a way to field a gunline that has decent-ish range for their points, allowing them to camp in the middle of the board and touch almost everything.
I personally love the idea of stalker marines because of how thematic it would be.
I don't know how giving a couple of them melta guns would pan out because of such vastly different ranges on the guns, it just doesn't seem practical at that point.
My two cents though. I just think they need to be played with a bit to find their real niche.

I agree. For 10pts you can get 1 Heavy Bolter on 1 guy for the same points you can get 2 Stalkers on 2 guys. The difference is you get 4 shots instead of 3 you can take the AP4 ammo that still has the same range only instead its S4 you can get around this though by being able to use the 2+ to wound ammo for some better damage output vs tougher foes. The AP3 ammo is also pretty good vs MEQ and the ignores cover ammo is great vs everything that's survival is dependent on a cover save.

My thoughts behind the Combi-Meltas are that if I decide to use them in a Pod I can send them in to deal with some heavy Armour in a Turn 1 Alpha Strike. If there is no serious Armour then they can start on the board and their Pod can stay in reserve empty to get other pods filled with men in.

The reason behind the Stalker Pattern Boltguns in 1 hand the Bolters/Combi-Bolters in the other hand is so I have something to shoot with if I decide to move in the moment phase. There just might come time where the missions requires me to move. Also if someone decide to take me out with a Drop Podding Dreadnought I can pop some Melta in their face.

I also like the fact that being a sniper weaoon I do have the chance to snipe out important targets from a squad. The occasional AP2 shot is also a bonus that the regular Bolters just don't get.

One other thing I like about the Stalker is the longer range. I am finding in a lot games that having my guys Drop Pod in things can regularly get cramped having a bit of ranged fire power can allow me to take care of other threats from range.

If you're having them as a 10 man squad, you can combat squad them for a 5man drop and a backfield holder no?

The Stalkers can either start on the board and start sniping while everyone else comes in via Pods. The Stalker teams Pods can stay in Reserve with the empty Pod to come in Turn 2+ and land on objectives.

If my opponent is fielding some heavy vehicles then I will keep the stalkers in the Pods and bring them in Turn 1 to make use of the Melta guns. I can keep one of the bigger squads in reserve.

I find the Frag Cannons are best vs light armour eg 12 and under and also Infantry and MC's. You still need some Melta to reliably deal with AV 13-14 and also Super Heavys.

The Libby's team with the 3 Frag Cannons and the 2 Combi-Melta's can be useful to pop some things but it's nice to have a back up option as well.
