I have no idea about DA fluff or if this has even been answered, but is the Lion likely to forgive Luther and the Fallen? And will the rest of the Imperium, and the Emperor himself should he awake?

Luther? Maybe since chaos corrupted characters only realize their fall from grace at the very end, and beg for forgiveness.

Would it stop him from killing them? No, they would still need to be put to death, the only one who would possibly escape that fate via either getting away or being raveled as a loyalist all along is zaharial, I mean, cypher :3. Other wise they will be put to the blade.

I mean even the emperor forgave Horus but it did not stop him from having to kill him.

To many unpainted models to count.

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

Not when the Fallen might tell the Imperium of the Lion's treachery.

The fallen are a huge liability. If it was discovered by the inquisition that the DA had fractured and that the fallen were still out there, that would be Very Bad News for the DA.

He might forgive them, but the DA woukd probably still kill the fallen anyway.

Big E already knows, the fallen are not so important and surely nobody cares in this Galaxy if they get "lost" somehow.

Which ones are you talking about?
The traitors keeping a secret or the loyalists spread though time.

Lion is kind of an a-hole with a short fuse and was on very curt terms with Luther.

He also has a tendency to aggressively kill members of the Dark Angels that disobey him.

Also, I don't believe anything has yet shown conclusively that the Fallen were -not- at least disloyal, if not Chaos-tainted. At least one of them was, but there is still a possibility that Luther's declaration of independence was genuine and it's only a few of the Fallen that turned. Suffice to say there is also a possibility that they all turned to Chaos somewhat. Regardless, they did enough to piss off the Lion, Chaos or no Chaos.

Don't forget, he ordered the bombardment. Although he was reconsidering his treatment of Luther at the end of Angels of Caliban and may have yet tried to make amends.

If he stays in character, the whole affair would have made him very, very angry.

There is no treachery on part of Lion revealed thus far in any of the back story they've published. Unless you're referring to what the only confirmed Chaos Fallen said.

Spoiler:
There is however at least evidence that Luther declared independence from Lion, the Imperium, Horus completely apart from Chaos. He declared Caliban's independence in Angels of Caliban. In a violent way.

The official story in the codex and overall narrative is still that Luther betrayed Lion since he was butthurt about being sent back to Caliban to train wet-behind-the-ears recruits.

If you know of anything different, I'd love to hear it and know what book it's in.

If the Fallen are, even unknowingly, Chaos-corrupted, there is no hope of redemption for them even if they desire it. If there aren't, they are still traitors as they made secession from the Imperium, they didn't just betray the Lion, they betrayed the Imperium as a whole and therefore the Emperor. There usually isn't much going back from that in 40k.

Except they were betrayed by the Imperium and the Emperor as far as they are concerned, and oddly, for "chaos" marines, they are actually right this time, Caliban was ruined by the coming of the imperium.

Yes, but ultimately the Lion stands for the Emperor and the Imperium, so he won't forgive them. I was never talking about wether they were right or wrong to make secession.

I’m beginning to believe that the writers are moving more towards a “the road to hell is paved with good intentions” sort of direction. The Lion, Luther and even Astelan as big a snake in the grass as he is are all doing what they personally believe is the right thing to do. What we are seeing on Caliban is exactly how easy it is for Chaos to sink its hooks into a person’s soul. Unlike what happened with Horus it doesn’t happen all at once but gradually over time; only at the end do you realise how far you have fallen.

Disagree on Astelan

Luther is plausibly not, but it doesn't matter, he was still disloyal and raised an insurrection against the Lion. That was sufficient for him to kill other people.
