Subject: Best second knight to compliment the Porphyrion?

Was taking a look at the Taghmata book again last night, the LoW choice is two LoW with 8hp or less, of the same type (sh tank, sh walker etc).
I'd like to get the Porphyrion and a second knight, at high points battles, to accompany it and fill the gaps it leaves. I'm thinking that would either be the Lancer or the Atrapos? Or am I overlooking a better choice?

I prefer the Atrapos. The fact it can shoot it's D Weapon before charging could save you the sticky 'mutual suicide pact' that charging other Super Heavies with a Knight typically is. With Ocular Implants, it can even reroll the D Shot against another super heavy both to hit and on the D Table.
Though, if anyone is going to survive a mutual suicide pact, it will be a Lancer that gets the charge.

I will second the Atrapos. Seems like a solid pairing.
I wouldn't advise a Lancer outside the HQ slot of a Questoris army.
Going to have to be a biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig battle though! ~4k or higher to fit them both in under the 25%.

Thanks folks, I would be using the complimentary at lowest, the porphyrion at mid and the combo at higher. It would appear the Atrapos wins out given it's ranged weaponry and D capability.

Uh, doesn't the 25% limit thing apply to each choice rather than all choices combined?
Both cost under 500pints so you can use both in a 2000 point game provided you use an FOC which allows two LoWs (Onslaught or Matrix of Ruin)

This is for a single warmachine detachment, so the limit applies to it total. Both Knights make up the single slot, meaning it has to abide the 25%, so 4k or so and up to use them as a single LoW.
And alternate FoC are for fun/narrative stuff. Not for standard/tourney games. It requires the consent of the opponent. So it is probably best to just use the standard AoD FoC, imo.

Gotcha, my mistake.

I cant agree on that, if a tournament stipulates only using the first one mentioned in book 1 thats cool, but any FOC is fair game in any game as per page 16 of the Taghmata red book in the 'army selection/force organization charts...
battles in the age of darkness games as shown in our existing horus heresy books and this update use their own missions and special core force organisation charts (as shown in this update), as well as special optional charts found in the various horus heresy volumes. these replace the standard battle-forged army system presented in the warhammer 40,000 rulebook and are intended to be used in conjunction with the missions and campaign system found in the horus heresy volumes and the core battles in the age of darkness missions which are provided here.
It describes all the FOCs in the book as 'core', it even uses a plural when referring to them; i'm presuming that the 'special optional FOCs' it mentions are the ones in the update like 'primarchs chosen' or the small ones for zone mortalis and the questoris household FOC.

Went ahead and included a screenshot of the rules concerning alternate FOCs per the latest Legion Red Book. The AoD FOC is the standard, the other three are optional and conditional on player agreement. The designer's note reinforces their use.
I am not specifically referring to the Questoris list or the Matrix of Ruin. Those are within a faction that augment or change the standard FOC and are not listed among the "optional" ones, but are how those armies function.
And "Primarch's Chosen" is not an FOC, it is a Rite of War. That is a different animal entirely.

feth!
I don't have that book, cheers for searching that out dude i appreciate it.
Oh, and a quick on the primarch's chosen thing, that'll lean me for not googling stuff.
Apologies to the OP for whats turned into a derail - i'd go for the Atrapos for the reasons 'crazyterran' pointed out above.
