So the sacrifice power is pretty great. (Especially with Brimstones nearby, they lose a wound, oh no) but I found that in the heat of battle making sensible decisions on what to summon was pretty difficult, given the wide range of options.

So! Shout out your favourite summoned Herald builds for different situations. Dreadnought at your door- who you gonna call?
Need to get to the other side of the board? What's the solution.

Let's get a list of optimum builds.

Ideas!

Tzeetch Heralds

Disc of Tzeentch
Disc of Tzeentch(have two because they're great)
Herald with extra mastery level
Portalglyph
Paradox
Grimoire of true names
Everstave and lesser reward (Ap3 flamer? yes why not.)
Impossible robe (if you already have cursed earth up, and really want to block someones way).

Nurgle Heralds

Etherblade & Greater Gift,
ML 1
lesser reward & Death's Head of Duke Olaks
Doomsday bell
Corruption (appears to get around Wraithknight toughness and immunity to poison.. )
Lesser Reward & Epidemia (good against hordes)

Slaanesh Heralds

Seeker Chariot
Steed and slothful claw

Khorne Heralds

(..Khorne relics are all underwhelming..)
Axe of Khorne & greater reward.
Axe of Khorne and Greater Etherbalde
Blade of blood and etherblade

Hey, that is a great observation on the Brims! I usually take a wound off a Nurgling, but Brims are even better.

For me, there is only 1 choice. Tz Disc Heralds.... and sometimes ....maybe...... a ML2 Tz Herald.
The DIsc Herald is great because it can show up, pop off a witchfire power if you have dice still available, then Turboboost out of LoS. They contribute to the next turns WC dice and can sometimes get that Malefic spell you've been needing. Plus, you get a unit that can go 36" in 1 turn for late game objective grabbing

The occasional ML2 Tz Herald is situational and I have yet to conjure him. But in theory, you summon him when you didn't roll Curse Earth or some other really important Malefic power. You summon him in cover and with 2 rolls on Malefic, he might get what you need.

My big 3 are:

Tzeentch - ML 2 or Disc : Obvious reasons of course.

Slaanesh - Chariot.

Nurgle - Etherblade & Greater Gift, or ML 1 and Head of Duke Olaks

This is already priceless, I would never have thought of taking the chariot

Another thought. Can you summon a Herald of Khorne from Khorne Daemonkin, since Possession lets you grab a Daemonkin Bloodthirster?

The only reason Possesion can do it is because the FAQ says you can do it. Nothing in the actually rules supported doing it

Correct. Since Sacrifice still says it is from codex: Daemons, and nothing says that the KDK Herald replaces the CD entry

Disc Tz heralds are great for psychic and movement
ML2 Tz herald to boost WC and to fish for more powers
I sometimes take a portalglyph herald early on to pump out more daemons. Usually horrors but if I roll high maybe some daemonettes to run upfield and cause a nuisance.
Sometimes even a Khorne herald with an artefact weapon to lurk and offer some protection to a squishy backfield.
Nurgle herald with the Doomsday Bell could be useful too.

what is the cost of a chariot for the herald then I though it was exalted only?

A Herald of Slaanesh can take a regular Chariot for exactly 30 points. Summon it, Flat out it somewhere safe, and use it to HoW something or so.
