Is TFM still operational? The last blog post on thier news blog was quite awhile ago. I wanted to make sure before I order.

I collect:
Grand alliance death (whole alliance)
Stormcast eternals
Slaves to Darkness - currently Nurgle but may expand to undivided.

They're still sculpting and posting on their delayed KS (last update was only a few days ago), (
(plus doing a shedload of casting for raging heroes and others)
so I guess they're still supplying stuff from their own website too

Oh damn. Raging Heroes is using [MOD EDIT - RULE #1 - Alpharius]? I don't want to have to stop buying from them just because they use him as a caster.

What's wrong with Ed?
He ran a kickstarter several years ago (I think 2012) with an April 2013 fulfillment date. I have nothing but negative thoughts towards the guy and have nothing nice to say about him. To the best of my ability, I will avoid doing any business through him.

As to whether the mould release is a Trollforged or Raging heroes choice it's hard to say,
since it doesn't show up (as far as I've seen) on any of their own trollforged stuff, or on the stuff they've done for Impact or other chibi minis
maybe it's needed for the extra fine detail on the RH stuff (or to boost mould life and reduce costs?)

Either way its enough reason for me to avoid buying resin from Raging Heroes and sticking to their metals instead.

Not yet. He's partially fulfilled it, but not to the larger backers. I expect to get stuff in... 2017 or 2018, so it's by no means the *worst* KS I've backed.

well that sucks. I guess working to maintain your existence meant he had to take contracts as well.

From what I've seen, he rolled out Trollcast as a casting medium and got very popular VERY quickly. Don't know if he overscheduled or overpromised or what, but I seem to recall Red Box Games and Mythos Foundry both having significant issues. The latter had to drop him entirely as of this past July. The kits had been promised for July of 2013.

so he got too popular too quickly, and couldn't expand to cope.

The list is longer than RBG and Mythos.
For any small company, Troll Forge should definitely be on your too-risky-to-do-business-with list.
Ed has a track record of delivering late, delivering poor quality work, and straight failing to deliver. He also has a history of getting into disputes with clients.
He might be an okay person, but he's not somebody you want to do business with. He's unreliable and untrustworthy. Folks can take the risk if they want to, but I have personally been in an 'I told you so' situation twice regarding Troll Forge. It's just not worth it. Not when there are lots and lots and lots of reliable manufacturers with good reputations and integrity.
Some people look at the price of the magic formula and think it's worth the risk. No, it really isn't. Automatically Appended Next Post:
Whatever the reason, the fact is that Ed has repeatedly decided to screw customers over. I'm amazed he's still in business.
Some people can't resist a boondoggle.

If I recall correctly, he did the Red Box stuff and a friend of mine's minis from that KS have the exact same oily, non-washable mold release. So I'm inclined to say it is, indeed, his doing.

Just thought I'd chip in here with a piece of information some people might find useful in this thread. Take what you want from this.
*Disclaimer we are not nor ever have been affiliated in any way with any of the companies mentioned above.
Some of you may know that we (Shieldwolf Miniatures) have been taking in commissions for the past 3 years (as far as I can remember) and therefore we cast for other companies as well, many of which situated in England, Spain and Poland. It is probable some of you have a mini done by us in your hands without you knowing it. Anyway, when we get asked to supply costs, it's not the same rate for everyone. The only thing that remains the same are the labor costs, minimum quantities needed and shipping charge. The customer however gets to pick which resin he wants us to use on his minis. We have the economic version (where we use resin_A), the normal version (resin_B), the high quality version (resin_C) and the premium version (the resin we use in our own minis). Depending on what the customer asks, we need to use the appropriate mold release and silicones, plus amount of baby powder and some other stuff of the craft. I am pretty sure we are not the only ones offering a choice to the customer.
Funny fact: Due to the overextended requests/commissions we have recently experienced finding ourselves out of our own(!) stock. That's perfectly acceptable for any casting facility as the revenue imported via these commissions is much higher and demand has ever risen in the past years. I wouldn't be surprised if others acted likewise as it ensures higher, quicker and ensured profits for the commisisoned party.
