I was thinking of putting together a "fluffy" Tyranid Kill Team list as follows:

Leader: Lictor

Troops/Specialists
Tyranid Warrior
Tyranid Warrior
Tyranid Warrior

Troops/Fodder
10 Termagants

My questions regard the kitting of the warriors. I was thinking a Barbed strangler for one with the ignores cover specialist trait. The other two I can't decide if I should go scything talons/deathspitters or rending claws/devourers. I am leaning towards the first option for str 5 shooting.

The list as a whole gives me 22 wounds, reasonable shooting and close combat capabilities and seems to fit what one could imagine an alien "kill team" would be like.

My questions are:
What weapon loadout for the warriors?

If as part of our campaign later we increase this to combat patrol or an escalation league would this loadout still be effective? (Thinking about $)

What changes do people recommend for this Kill Team?

In the same vein as question 2; what additions would you recommend if/when we increase our points? (Assuming the first choice is already the default flying hive tyrant) i.e. at 500 points I assume it would be add a flying hive tyrant and then fill in the remaining points with termagants.

depends on how you run it, if you are doing escalation and laurels to increase points and able to buy individual models I would throw in some gargoyles mobile scoring is awesome

Thanks gargoyles could come in handy and they come with the get started box with the warriors. How about your opinion on war gear for the warriors?

I would keep it cheap, every warrior gets a deathspitter and that is it, 3 str 5 shots for 5 points, done.

What are everyone's thoughts on replacing the lictor with a zoanthrope?

Aren't they Brotherhood of Psykers? Even with just 1.
Meaning they lose that and are thus useless.

If i read the rules right shouldn't it be a standalone mastery level two psyker? You can take them in broods of 1-3

Which would make them a fearless two wound leader with a 3++ a lance attack and ap3 blast and another synapse creature

there is no psychic phase in kill teams so zoanthropes are useless

though to be fair I do not own the book just somebody else running one that I participate in so if I am wrong correct me, but we are supposedly playing standard gw kill teams

units with the psychic brotherhood rules lose the ability such as horrors and grey knights. 99% of other psykers are HQ choices which you can´t take anyway. I do remember one person getting one in one of my games but I don´t remember how they got it. it may have been Zoanthrope. Not sure if 1 model counts as brotherhood of psyker or not. I am sure that more than 1 does though

There is a psychic phase in kill team it is just infrequent because of the lack of non-hq psykers (zoanthrope and shadowseers being the only two i can think of). The codex entry for zoanthropes starts at ine model with ability to add two more one of which can be upgraded to a neurothrope. They have a bonus for larger broods when casting warp blast.

Just an addon. Even the white dwarf tyranid kill team had a zoanthrope in it. At the very minimum you should have warp blast (they always know this) and d6 warp charge.

Check the Zoanthrope rules guys - they do not have the Psyker special rule, they only have Brotherhood of Psykers. Which means, as per the kill team rules, that their Psychic abilities do not function at all in KT. Really annoying as 1/2 zoans would be awesome in the format, but hey ho. Yes the WD KT has one in, but GW writers are notorious for not knowing their own rules!

So back to lictor as he leader then as leader. 3 warriors as specialists and 10 termagants
