Yep. Not your frothy lager, but beer beer. Your Ales, Stouts, Porters, Milds and so on,
Those of us who partake of a tipple will likely be partial to a brew. And the best bit about beer is that there's a near unlimited variety of them out there, with very different tastes and on occasion texture.
Me? I prefer the maltier end of the spectrum - unfortunately hoppy beer tastes soapy on my tongue. My preferred pint is Hobgoblin, but at my local it'll be a pint of Harvey's best - a beer most well suited for a casual evening's drinking and chattering.
But tonight I'm trying the ones Mummy Grotsnik sent me for Christmas, kicking off with Badger brewery's Blandford Flyer - a beer with ginger flavouring.
So far, so good. Definitely one to enjoy with a meal - it's a bit much for a session drink, though given ginger is a proven anti-nausea treatment, perhaps not a bad pint to float on top at evening's end?
Right, off you go.

Agh a subject I enjoy!
Whychfords, golden, and hob goblin is just great.
Also rare platinum version.
Golden goblin is best in a mini keg. Glass bottle too.. The cans.. Not the same...
Keg is best.

Sadly, seems some bean counter has changed Hobgoblin's recipe - it's still a good beer, but not what it once was.
Best beer I've ever had though?
Just the right side of malty for me, and a dangerously drinkable pint,

Hob goblin is one of few I can drink and have no real bad effects.
Not sure but some disagree. That not!
I do enjoy local beers on holiday... So much variety in uk.
Though herfordahire cider... Organic .. 9%
That was great stuff... Not beer I know!
Best beer... Hard to say.
But once at 7% plus.. Starts to be less speaking. Ciders ok that strong. Not beer.

A good dessert beer hails from Atwater Brewery in Michigan. Decadent Double Chocolate stout, this bad boy goes down real easy and it's a perfect dessert beer. My local brewery is Two Roads, and they make a bunch of different styles, but largely IPAs. They have a grapefruit session that I love, and their Rye 95 and 20 Ton barley wine ale will knock you on your ass; they're potent AND delicious.
I love craft/microbrew beers. Nothing beats them.
And to all my dakka brothers in Portland, OR, I miss me some McMenamins!!!

IPA?? Bleeeuuuuuurrrrgh!!! Much too hoppy for me!
Though I'm openly opposed to the term 'craft beer'. All beers, barring mass produced stuff is inherently 'craft'. To me it's just another Hipster to whack extra on the price.

I think it more means smaller runs.
Not the likes of bigger ales that are made in mass factory level volumes.
Craft is more supplying a few local pubs with local beer.

I personally drink on a nearly daily basis, so I can't afford to drink any real quality stuff. Especially with GW and warhammer n such as a hobby. Don't be surprised to see me drinking a king cobra 40 oz topped off with orange juice. But for me beer is beer, I do tend to like IPA's and love me some guinness for dessert and stuff.

I currently work in the Shoreditch area of London, i.e. London's Hipster central and have many times had to deal with the only beer available in Restaurants being American Craft beers, frankly some better deserve the title of Alcopops and they com in teeny-tiny cans. Sugar is not a substitute for flavour meladee!
Fortunately The Eagle (of Pop goes the Weasel fame!) on City Road still does the business Doombar being the pint of choice for drinkers.

I am the embodiment of every beer hipster stereotype, in that I almost exclusively drink high ABV IPAs, preferably from small breweries, and draft whenever possible.
I'll occasionally branch out to a barleywine or a brown ale, but for me nothing delights me like a well balanced, fruity IPA.

I've tried various cask aged and cross-mixed stuff.
Beer finished in a bourbon barrel.
Wine finished in a bourbon barrel.
Bourbon finished in a wine barrel.
None of them are as awesome as they should be.

I went through a phase of drinking good beer. Then the running club I'm a part of found a great dive bar that does $10 jugs for hours and hours (that's cheap here) to spend our time at. And they're heavies, so it's not any less alcoholic than anything else beer-wise you could get out. Just more cost effective Even if you could swear one of the tap beers there is just the leftovers from all the other kegs sloshed back together...

If you ever make a travel up the road to CT, get some Lil Heaven session IPA from Two Roads. Grapefruit and passion fruit IPA. Delicious. And I usually dislike IPA. I also usually don't like sour mash gose beers, but they make one that I found goes REALLY well with homemade guacamole!! You can find them in any decent sized liquor store up here. I'm in southern CT and they're everywhere.

I'm with Mad Doc, hoppy bears taste awful to me but I do enjoy a stout.
Left Hand brewery (based out of Colorado I think) makes a great Milk Stout. Mix this nectar with an equal portion of Young's Double Chocolate Stout and you have my go-to, a chocolate milk.

I really feel this sort of thread shows the wonderful nature of beer. Tiny little breweries you've never heard of, all beavering away at their own, unique brews.
I can only really speak for my little corner of the world, but I know that no more than a 15 mile drive in any direction will lead me to an entirely new beer.
The recent boom in proper brewing is very exciting. The only downside is that it's been somewhat hijacked by Bloody Hipsters, giving beer a level of pretentiousness it simply neither needs nor deserves.
Most mental beer I've ever tasted? Brewdog's Tactical Nuclear Penguin. Essentially a knowing 'Idiot's Brew'. Near lethally strong, it's closer to a spirit than a beer. Local pub got two bottles in for a beer festival, and I had a couple of samples. Oh god it tastes awful! Like, Tennant's Super with a shot of Jif Micro Liquid. But, it was an experience in itself.

I've been to a number of beer festivals in small towns in IL and WI. Mostly just to get out of the house. In my many years, I have not been able to appreciate IPA's, I'm afraid. Too bitter.
I like lighter beers, some amber beers, and a handful of stouts. I'll try anything once, but if it's an IPA, I'm about 99.943% sure I will not like it.

Not always, a few years ago I got a couple of bottles of Imperial Russian stout which was 12%, I can't remember the manufacturer but it was a limited production job with individual serial numbers on the bottles. I drank one more or less straight away, which was a mistake as it really wasn't great and it benefits from being allowed to mature. The second one I had a year later and immediately after drinking it regretted not buying more.
For a lager, I used to really like Kronenburg Cru which IIRC was a fairly strong 6%, my local shops have long since stopped stocking it.
Spitfire is another I enjoy occasionally, but working nights and on the railway in the UK I don't tend to drink all that often and never in the week, unless I'm on days for some reason or leave.
I do have a bottle of RAF 75th anniversary (Yes really...) beer in the garage fridge. Unsurprisingly that one is more than a little past its Use By date and I'm not sure even I would chance it now!

There was a small bottle beer I had at my local's festival a few years back, matured in wine barrels.
It had a distinct but not unpleasant after taste of balsamic vinegar. Not one I'd drink regularly, but I'd love to try it as an ingredient in a beef stew - perhaps something with shin of beef or oxtail, a proper 'stick it in the slow cooker and leave for a couple of days.

Heh, I like my beer with more than a 7% content. Rye 95 is 9.5% (imagine that) and the barleywine I mentioned was like a 14.5 or something. Delicious and doesn't taste that alcoholic...but good luck standing up after a few glasses.

In the UK alcohol is rated by ABV rather than in the US which is Proof though, a 7% beer for you is a 3.5% one for us. The Stout I mentioned earlier would be 24% Proof.

Uh, no. A 7% beer here would be 14 proof, just like an 80 Proof bourbon is 40% ABV.
If the label here uses ABV, the percent is the percent. If it uses Proof, there is typically no percent given, or the label has both.

This is my favourite standard beer but I can't find it anymore, it seems to have been replaced by a much inferior 'oak smoked' version.
Most of the time I just drink Heineken these days as it is easy to get, cheap and probably the best of the common lagers.
