I posted earlier that I was looking forward to starting a UAR army for Fate of a Nation which focused heavily on the T-55.

I have the book next to me and I can confirm that running T-55s is an option for the UAR.

Their rules are very similar to the WW2 Soviets: companies instead of platoons, and hen and chicks, so a cheap T-55 option is most welcome indeed.

From the top of my head, BF also do a T-55 box set, but I think it's something like 3 tanks for £20 which is no good to me, especially if you get 5 for the same price.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
As an interesting note, an old friend of mine who was a tanker in the British Army during the Cold War, was part of a test team that tested the T-55 for NATO when they got their hands on one.

He said it was a bloody good tank, not much difference between that and the Centurion, but ultimately, it came done to the quality and training of the crew.

T-55s do not appear to be being prepared for wider usage in TY as the box actually says "Panzer Kompanie" with DDR markings on it versus some boxes like the Spandrel which actually have the Soviet icons on the box art and the DDR card is in a pouch outside.

I have read that the box set also includes a set of cards for Soviet T-55 use, so there is that. I imagine any further use of the T-55 will be addressed when additional Warsaw Pac forces are introduced to the game.

Delving somewhat off-topic but I'd like corroboration of that. Based on the BF articles on the contents for the two boxes, you can see that the T-55 box only includes DDR cards, while the Spandrel box includes both DDR and Soviet cards. The codes of the products are also a clue in that the former is TEBX01 and the latter is TSBX11; BF's codes are not hard to decipher that the T-55 is the first box for the East Germans while the Spandrels is the 11th box for the Soviets. All that said, I'm not about to go to the store and buy a $73 box of 5 tanks with the offering from PSC on the horizon just to confirm there are no Soviet cards, so in defiance of the available evidence it could still be the case. I'd just need more than "someone said" is all, especially since BF already clarified that while the BRDMs have the cards with points there is no official way to include them until Red Thunder (in the spoiler at the end due to very off-topic).

On the actual topic of the thread, is anyone else wishing they had a 6-box deal where they'll throw in an extra sprue? 31 seems a good number to make available as a bulk buy for...reasons.

Spoiler:

Phil At Battlefront wrote:We have included the cards so that Soviet players will have the cards when the new Soviet book comes out. There is no official way to include them in a Soviet force at this point, although the East Germans and the Soviets used them in exactly the same way, so their usage isn't hard to predict.

Cheers

Looking into it myself, you may be right. I can't find any evidence that Soviet cards are included with the T-55 box. My bad!

22% shipping to the USA kinda sucks - any chance of better shipping?

PSC will eventually be carried by most major US stores, for the usual discount. I wouldn't worry about it.

No Soviet cards in the T-55 box. The cards are available with the BRDM and Spandrel.

I believe the thinking is that the Soviets had enough better tanks that they wouldn't have needed to use T-55s in the initial assault waves that invaded Western Europe. If the war lasts for longer than expected (which Battlefront has indicated will be the case), then eventually we might see them show up in later Soviet formations as the Soviets start using anything and everything that's available.

Though one more item worth noting on the cards. There have been a couple of posts on the official forums from people claiming to have opened BRDM boxes with no cards.
