Subject: Ministorum Priest

I've had another idea while reading through Codex: Imperial Agents. Seeing as you can take a single Ministorum Priest in the Ministorum Delegation detachment (in the Sororitas section), I wondered if my Dark Angels could perhaps benefit from it. The Priest gives good buffs in the form of his War Hymns, and for just 25 points. For a few points more, he could take the Litanies of Faith to auto-pass the leadership test for the hymns. I would think that on an assault unit this would be really good. The only problem is the FAQ keeping battle brothers from starting aboard each other's transports, meaning that the Priest would have to join a footslogging unit. The only such unit that I can think of for this would be an Assault Squad with Jump Packs, using good movement tricks to let the Priest keep up (starting him in front, leapfrogging with the jump packs, running with him on the first turn to get him near the front of the unit again). The question is, would this be a viable use of a Priest?

If one model in the unit runs, then the whole unit counts as running.
Ministorum Priests are great, both for the reason you mentioned, and because they offer free Zealot to whatever unit he joins. (Also, if you attach him to Space Marines or some other high-Leadership unit, he's pretty much golden on War Hymns - He doesn't have to test off of his own Leadership.)
The problem, as you point out, is that you really can't have him moving with anyone. He's good if you want to footslog a slow unit, but that's about the only time he's going to be viable.
I've attached a pair of priests (One of whom carried the Litanies of Faith) to a unit of Custodes before, getting Zealot, re-rolls on saves, and re-rolls to wounds as a great trifecta of assaulty damage. Your other option is to attach to a unit standing outside before getting into the transport on turn 1, but that's risky.

Add him to your ravenwing bikers. They have scout and are fast enough for the priest's low speed to not matter. Other than when you want to avoid something. But than you have re-rollable cover and re-rollable armor. Low ap combat would still be a problem.

Why doesnt he have to use his own ld? Did I miss something ?

No you didn't. Waaaghpower is incorrect. You only use the highest Ld in the unit when the unit makes a Ld test. Since the Priest is the model specifically making the Ld test he has to use his own Ld.

Yeah, that's my bad. The wording in the BRB says something like 'If a unit has to take a leadership check, use the highest Leadership in the unit', and I misread that a bit. I blame myself, but also the incredibly vague use of the word 'unit' in the 40k vernacular.
That being said, I almost never have a priest without the Litanies of Faith anyways, so it doesn't come up often. (Or else I just have Uriah on standby,)

You can always have the priest start behind the transport and have him embark in the first turn

Won't work well against someone with Drop Pods or GSC who gets first turn. But it could work against others I suppose.

Have him attached to a static squad like Devastators or even bikes that are next to the transport then he can break off and get onboard. That way he's not left out in the open
