Quick and Easy Hobby Lobby wood pieces and glue for my Sisters of Battle. I may make little shrines at some point, but these do well for now.

I am just getting started on creating my own objectives and was wondering what size base do you find best when building your objectives?

It depends what you want to do. If you're doing numbered objectives like SQRT(-2) then any size will do as long as they're not so small that you can't see them clearly on the table and they're not so large that they obstruct play.

If you want to make a playable objective like a flag to capture that will travel with an in-play unit then a regular single miniature base will do provided it's big enough to support the flag without falling over all the time. Again much bigger and it becomes cumbersome to move around.

Some larger bases might be required for a more diorama like idea, such as a wounded marine or a downed jetbike or something. These can become effectively terrain pieces in game but if you intend to move that wounded man try not to base him on an elaborate scenic hill with a tree.

What have you in mind? What's your army or what game are you thinking of objectives for?

Currently I am playing Kill Team, my friend and I are looking into starting to play 40K. I bought some 3D printed objectives (pile of skulls and obelisks) but was looking ones that would bring more flavor to the board. I play mostly marines right now but I also have kroot and necrons. I saw some cool objectives for the kroot using some of the bits to make campfires with the meat hanging.

Weeeeell, I mean, I love a campfire cook-out as much as the next Kroot but I'm not going to fight a detachment of Astartes over a rack of ribs. Unless it's mama-Kroot's secret dry-rub recipe I'm trying to protect.

Very true, I have also looked at using the spare backpacks I have from my astartes, as well as weapon caches.

You could scour eBay for some spares and repairs lot. Something like an old rhino hull or a legless battlesuit or dreadnought. Something so paint-caked and damaged as to be barely salvageable for anything other than a broke down, battlefield salvage objective marker. Needn't be too expensive.

It'd give you something a bit more valuable than a back pack even an old plastic terminator armour suit would fit the bill.
