Hello all,

I'm trying to put together my own Gabriel Angelos model matching the Cataphractii armor design in Dawn of War 3 and I'm trying to find which models/sprues have the bits I would need to make a model close to what they have in the design:

I don't need it to look exactly like it, just close to it. I've never tried to use Green Stuff before and am wondering, for right now, how to do it without using that.

I bought a Captain Aethon model from the Betrayal at Calth set to use as a base for the design and have extra bits lying around I can put onto it to make it look closer to how Gabriel looks, however I ran into some questions that I can't seem to answer myself:

1) What bits should I use to construct God Splitter (his hammer)? I'm thinking the two handed Nemesis Daemon Hammer bit from the Grey Knights Strike Squad sprue will do well for that purpose, however I'm stuck on the head of the hammer.

If I sand down the body of a Deathwind Launcher and then put things over that to make the design for it, what bits would I look for that might match the unique design?

2) For the left shoulder plate, I have a pattern like that on another shoulder pad I have lying around and I was wondering is there a method to carefully shave that design off of the pad to use on the pad of the base model? Or is there somewhere that would sell a bit of just that design or something close to it? And then for the right pad, I was thinking of filing down a Dark Angel insignia to look closer to the Raven design.

The rest of the decoration on the model I have the bits for, its mostly just these two questions I'm looking to figure out before I go ahead with the project and start assembling everything. Any additional thoughts/bits of advice on how to do this would be awesome! Thanks in advance!

There is a technique called press molding that should help with the shoulder (and getting details for the hammer). I’ve not done it personally, so take this with a grain of salt (and a place to start looking for actual help). You basically take some GS, and either some lubricant or just wet it, and press it onto the detail you want to copy. Remove and wait for it to cure. Then use that as a mold for some more GS. Press it in to the mold, remove, and then apply where you want it.

Or that’s the theory.

Is GS difficult to work with or not really that hard to learn to use?

There's also this stuff called Instant Mould or Oyuramu. It's a kinda plastic-y material that'll go soft in hot water and holds shapes when it cools. I reckon a few sticks of that would be quicker and (maybe?) easier than green stuff moulds.

Give it a look!

Green Stuff is not hard to work with generally. I’ve only done some very basic sculpting with it, besides the normal gap filling stuff.

For more advanced stuff, I’d look for some tutorial videos.

YMMV
