That's a serving general wondering whether the U.S. government is "stable."

Well, if Kellyanne Conway and her dad, the POTUS, are shilling for her brand I guess she is paid, but just not directly in dollars. Really, I'd hope there would be a bit more coming out of Conway being so unapologetic about openly and directly marketing for Ivanka than "counselling".

Now, obviously to be taken with a grain of salt, all it says is that there were contacts without knowing exactly what was discussed, but it certainly deepens the rabbit hole of insanity with this election.

For an administration that just barely finished its third week, things are certainly...awkward. I'm having trouble seeing this administration govern just about anything at this point, regardless of political opposition, if this continues. And there's no end in sight.

The intelligence agencies then sought to learn whether the Trump campaign was colluding with the Russians on the hacking or other efforts to influence the election.

The officials interviewed in recent weeks said that, so far, they had seen no evidence of such cooperation.

But isn't it interesting that all the IC leaks are cheered when it happens to Trumpo/GOP, but jeer'ed when it's Hillary Clinton/Democrats?

You mean those "leaks" that were either stolen via foreign actors or released by partisan political activists with the intent to influence the election? And that, ultimately, were dropped the second Clinton stopped being a threat? I don't hear much anymore about ongoing investigations or special prosecutors.

There is a pretty clear difference between a leak that reveals complicity between the incoming executive team and the Russian government, and a leak that reveals nothing of any great significance but helps the incoming executive team to win the election thanks to the probable complicity of the Russian government in hacking and leaking the material.

Even you as a solid Trump supporter ought to be worried about his connections to the Russians.

Trump brought in Manafort, who's connections to Russia forced his resignation from Trump's campaign.

Trump brought in Flynn, who engaged in a series of secret calls with Russia. Trump knew about the calls but did nothing for weeks, until the issue came out in the media.

That's not true, he did something...

He fired Sally Yates, the acting Attorney General, for "refusing to enforce his travel ban". Conveniently at the same time she was issuing warnings about Flynn's vulnerability to Russian blackmail.

Trump's Sec of State, Rex Tillerson, has long ties to Russia and their major oil company Gazprom. Trump's foreign policy advisor Michael Page also has direct business ties to Gazprom.

Trump repeatedly denied Russian involvement in the election, despite absolute statements from the intelligence community.

Trump has positive comments about Putin going back to 2007. Over that time he's said Putin waz loved in his country, praised Putin's intelligence, and defended Putin against claims that he killed journalists.

Yeah, its a real mystery if Trump has been involved in the contacts with Russia.

It's amusing how despite these things, concerns from the intelligence agencies and now the head of SOCOM as well regarding the actions or abilities of this government, unprecedented in living memory for a US government, to some it's all just hand-waved away as something like "the lamestream media" or "Hillary sucked".

It's amazing the little bubble world that the Republican Party with the aid of Fox and other Conservative leaning blogs, groups, etc has created.

They love to say that Democrats and Liberals live in their own little world, but I can't help but wonder if they assume the other side has done the same thing?

There is a pretty clear difference between a leak that reveals complicity between the incoming executive team and the Russian government,

It isn't that clear...

For what it's worth, I truly believe that Trump knew about Flynn's conversations. Maybe not the literal transcripts, but enough of the content of what was discussed. Trump would've stood by Flynn, but one of (or any combo) Pence/Bannon/Reibus didn't like Flynn and used this to justify his ousting.

Incoming administrations 'talks' to other foreign nations during their campaign & president elect phase (don't believe me? just look at Obama in '08 and Bush in '00).
and a leak that reveals nothing of any great significance but helps the incoming executive team to win the election thanks to the probable complicity of the Russian government in hacking and leaking the material.

That is a big deal... so what should we do? Use this as casus belli to do what exactly? We're already sanctioning their asses....

Invite Ukraine into NATO?

Even you as a solid Trump supporter ought to be worried about his connections to the Russians.

Right now... yes, it is concerning.

But I can sit back and enjoy that Clinton is not the President at the same time.

Funny...

Man, you should be in the Olympics. Because you'd medal gold in gymnastics for these kinds of statements.

Trump has shown himself to be willing to sell anyone out if they're "damaging" to his brand. Flynn was, at best, interchangeable. Just watch though. I can basically guarantee that while he's no longer the National Security Advisor...he'll still be showing up at Mar-A-Lago or making phone calls to Trump/Russia on Trump's behalf.

It's rather telling that he didn't get "fired". He resigned.

Incoming administrations 'talks' to other foreign nations during their campaign & president elect phase (don't believe me? just look at Obama in '08 and Bush in '00).

Do you have any evidence of Obama's administration doing anything remotely like using contacts to convince a foreign power not to retaliate from sanctions?

What with y'know...Trump wanting to roll the sanctions back.

Invite Ukraine into NATO?

Ukraine should have been a NATO nation ages ago. The only reason they aren't was to try to encourage bridge-building with the Russians under Yeltsin.

Even you as a solid Trump supporter ought to be worried about his connections to the Russians.

Clearly not concerning enough, because you've been bending over backwards to defend every stupid thing this pants on head moronic administration has done in these past three weeks.
You make token statements of "concern" and "outrage", yet spend more time trying to wiggle it back to being the fault of Obama or Clinton or the Democrats in general.

But hey. Clinton was worse, amirite?

Funny...

It is barely 3 weeks into "your team" being in the White House, and already you and the party have been trying to blame everything on Democrats.

And sure, someone saying that Russia "hacked the election" isn't necessarily true--but there still is no evidence beyond the word of WikiLeaks(lol...did Assange turn himself over yet?) that the leaked emails weren't from Russian intelligence or altered?

US intelligence agencies have been very vocal that while there is no evidence of Russian tampering with voting machines or election results, there absolutely was a targeted disinformation campaign.

How can you sell out someone... and then have them do stuff for you on your behalf? Frankly, I see Flynn doing what you suggest, ala Manafort & Lewandowski.

It's rather telling that he didn't get "fired". He resigned.

How so? It soften the impacts if he resigned... rather than an explicit firing.

You don't have any evidence that Flynn was trying to convince that ambassador not to retaliate.... we.don't.know.what.exactly.was.discussed.

Trump had access to the transcripts 2 weeks ago... so, make what you will of that.

*sigh* Look... previous administration doing bad things in the past doesn't absolve this administration for doing the same thing...

I find more enjoyment pointing out double-standards, because what the hell... I'm in Calvinball mode yo. (as I have been since Trumpo's nomination)

But hey. Clinton was worse, amirite?

Yup. Not in the same incompetent buffoonery as Trump... but at least just as bad.

Of course... that's what they do.

Only if you want to force Russia to attack NATO.
There's no logical reason to extend NATO beyond the original countries unless you want to hem in Russia and force them to re-arm. Imagine if the USSR had signed Mexico into the Warsaw PACT?

Frankly there's no logical reason for a NATO involving the US at this point AT ALL.

Its not propaganda, don't be dense.
NATO was put in place to stop the USSR. The USSR no longer exists. However Russia does and if you push NATO up to its border the likelihood of war is near certainty.

The USSR er Russia was leaving those nations alone as long as they had favorable regimes to Russia. Russia is insistent upon favorable border states wherever possible as it has a history of being invaded.

This is the same reason China prefers friendly bordering nations and keeps NK in power. Its the same reason the US prefers friendly states on its borders AND WAS WILLING TO GO TO FULL NUCLEAR WAR to keep troops from a major foreign power away from one of theses states (Cuba).

I wasn't even alive during the Cuban Missile Crisis and I can tell you that's wrong.

The US was willing to go to full nuclear war to keep Russia from being able to deploy nuclear missiles virtually on our front door.

For starters, that second quote you attributed to me, I never stated that. That was someone else. I'm going to go ahead and assume that you made an honest mistake with the quotations, it happens.

As for teachers being underpaid and overworked.....
Now, I'm not saying that there aren't some teachers that are underpaid or overworked, but that is true of any profession. About the worst thing you can say abou the teaching profession is that the hours they do get are very unevenly distributed throughout the year, making for times when they could get burned-out.

The wage they earn for the hours they work is quite fare. According to ABC news the wage per hour worked for teachers is MORE than that for Chemists, Architects, Pharmisists, city planners, Firemen, or Police officers. Yes, I know teachers work more hours than what they are contracted to work. Much like any other salary based employee this isn't exactly abnormal. Others do it too. Just as a comparrisson, my yearly income basically matches that of the average teacher, yet I work 20% more hours, and I have fewer benefits.

I think the best plan for getting teachers more money is to work them more hours, spread more thoughout the year. Have school 12 months per year. Teachers will then have a year-long job (like everyone else). Class sizes could be smaller then, reducing stress for teachers and improving education for the students. Raising the number of hours teachers work per year by 20% with a 10% increase in pay would be something people could live with.

Chemists, architects, pharmacists, city planners, firemen, or police aren't often forced to pay out of pocket for stocking their offices.

Do you really think that most teachers aren't already working year long?

Only if you want to force Russia to attack NATO.
There's no logical reason to extend NATO beyond the original countries unless you want to hem in Russia and force them to re-arm. Imagine if the USSR had signed Mexico into the Warsaw PACT?

Frankly there's no logical reason for a NATO involving the US at this point AT ALL.

Lol, now you're spouting Russian propaganda? All NATO does is stop Russia from invading those countries.

Its not propaganda, don't be dense.
NATO was put in place to stop the USSR. The USSR no longer exists.

It was for more than that, and does more than that.

However Russia does and if you push NATO up to its border the likelihood of war is near certainty.

So Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia are't real countries?

The USSR er Russia was leaving those nations alone as long as they had favorable regimes to Russia. Russia is insistent upon favorable border states wherever possible as it has a history of being invaded.
If NATO was going to invade Russia, they would have done it a long time ago. There is literally no reason for NATO to invade beyond Russia declaring war on a member-state.

I think you remeber the Cuban Missile Crisis a tad differently than me.

...Fraz... it's in response to my question: Knowing that Russian Intelligence, via Wikileaks, wanted to cause chaos in our elections... what's the appropriate response? Something that signifies 'don't do that again or we'll escalate even more'.

Release lots of dirt on Putin?

Maybe it isn't inviting Ukraine into NATO... maybe it's restarting the missile defense shield in Poland? Or, simply increase our activities with existing Nato countries? Or parking an aircraft carrier in the Black Sea?

Crash the systems in the banks and oil companies funding his regime.

There's no reason for NATO to still exist but it does. There's no reason for the US to still be a member but it is. Riding a military alliance right up to its border has no logical reasoning behind it.
Thanks Clinton.

That's basically what we have done. The sanctions have severely hurt Russia's economy. They may be seeing their economy collapse in 2017-18 if this keeps up. They are running out of money.

Edit they do have severe economic problems. At this point their primary exports are raw materials, weapons and computer fraud. However the rising price of oil should help their economy this year.

No, that was the price of oil. That is now rising.
Rising, but still at half or less their 2013/2014 highs, and Russia is hurting because of it, and sanctions are preventing them from engaging in many finanical options used to otherwise mitigate that as well as they possibly could, while export markets are shifting away from Russian product because overreliance on it allowed Russia to use it as a foreign policy weapon to great effect and nobody wants to deal with that again.

Indeed that quote block issue was my fault... but hey, wall of text, quote code looks all the same to me

What you're saying may be true in Iowa, but is definitely untrue in other parts of the country. For instance, teachers in my home state of Washington are paid roughly the same as they are there in Iowa. There is a state set bottom line pay scale. Most districts offer bonuses that increase teacher salary some, with some districts, like those around Microsoft-land being very well paid indeed. However, the cost of living for much of this state means that those teachers who don't work in those privileged districts are living/working at subsistence rates.

As Kan pointed out, the majority of teachers provide, out of pocket, a significant chunk of the school supplies in their classrooms. Now, for elementary teachers this is obviously an issue, because crayons, pencils, markers, etc. aren't cheap when you're looking at 20+ snotlings running around, but those costs aren't really any less for middle and high school teachers, especially with the recent push in humanities for more "project based" learning.

Now, I have a former BIL who was a prison guard, and he had to buy his own utility belt. I don't know if that is also the case for real cops (LEO lvl 2+ in Nevada), but lets stick with something even more basic... How many cops would continue to be cops if they were forced to buy 1000 rounds of ammo every year, or every 6 months? How many would be OK with spending their own money putting fuel in their patrol cars? How many would be OK with buying hay and oats for their horses (where applicable)?

We should be supporting our teachers as a society, but instead, a huge chunk has decided to attack and vilify them at pretty much every opportunity.

Actually police in rural districts often have to buy their own ammo... of course cops often rarely shoot at all.

Teacher's unions and salaries are just weird, but usually based on seniority not talent or achievement.
