Subject: Eldar Anti Air besides Crimson Hunter

Hello all, I just got my first Eldar army and am going for Mechdar. I have an idea of what I want to do with most of my units except on how to deal with flyers.
My potential anti air choices are
3 War Walkers with EML
A single Falcon with EML
or I could swap my Hemlock for a Crimson Hunter. Although I REALLY like the Hemlock (rule of cool here) and I am not going for an overly competitive list here.
If I do choose the walkers, would it be wise to maybe only do 1 EML on each and one scatter laser or something else? Then like 90% of the time my usual targets (transports) will still get wrecked and if he does have any flyers I have a good chance vs them.
Thoughts? Automatically Appended Next Post: I guess I should add that I have 2 wave serpents as well that I could add EML too. I am still learning the codex sorry!

Well, when it comes to killing flyers Crimson Hunters are hard to beat. That said follow your rule of cool.
The Falcon will barely pose a threat to flyers, though like the Walkers it still has significant ground threat. One scary shot is still just one shot.
Walkers can do the job, but man that is expensive... Also, it is generally frowned upon to mix weapons on Walkers (probably less so in this instance, since both weapons are dual purpose). Lots of people just Guide Scatter Walkers, but that still struggles with AV12. The EML would help there...
What about Dark Reapers? They still snapshot, but they get rerolls to help. Ignoring Jink can really help out, too.
The Eldar problem is no good surface based anti air. Of the things listed, I'd try the Reapers and the Walkers.

If you don't mind Forgeworld, then Firestorm (Falcon chasis Corsairs tank, unfortunately out of production, but with current rules) is the best Eldar dedicated AA other than Crimson Hunter.
If you're looking at basic Codex only, then Dark Reapers are quite capable with their Inescapable Accuracy (two chances at fishing those '6') and Rangefinder (no Jink allowed). Squad of three is roughly an equivalent of one double EML War Walker against flyers (or twice as good including Jink into calculation), but much more deadly against FMCs (s8ap3 instead of s7ap4 skyfire), a bit more universal and scalable (33pts per Reaper vs 75-90 per walker). The biggest problem with Reapers is that they become priority target for any army they can hurt and they severly lack durability.

Thanks for the info guys. Im fairly cashed out after buying this lot so I couldnt pick up Dark Reapers for a while.
It looks like War Walkers but man are they fragile. I could outflank them so they come on in the same turn as a flyer I guess.
Maybe just ignore AA altogether and hope my scatbikes and other sources of S6 shooting work?

Swift Swooping Hawk

If you are running a Guardian Battlehost, the 3x free Vaul weapons can help a little with 3x EML.
Other options are Warp spiders and Swooping hawks. The Spiders have the mobility and volume of fire to cause some damage (i recall someone running numbers and they came very close to Scatter Laser WW ) also Swooping hawks with their 18" range and the airstrike ability can do a decent work if the enemy get confident.

Swooping hawks if you can get them, but I guess the walkers if you have to ? Alternatively just ignore opposing flyers? Depends what your opponent brings!

Scatterbikes will kill most air through sheer number of shots.

Speaking of guiding knights, a guided double inferno lance skathach wraithknight will make short work of most flyers.
