Hi all,

Is there any point in running more than Zahndrek in the Harvest/Cult list. If I throw Orikan or Obyron in with the Wraiths and then Teleport them, wouldn't that make them weaker since they're out of range of the Spyder.

Are you just asking about named characters or independent's in general?

You could add a second Destroyer Lord to keep up with the Harvest and spread out the Preferred Enemy.

The Imperium of Man: White Scars - 1200, Raven Guard - 110 pts, Imperium - 550 pts
Tomb World: Nameless Dynasty - 270 pts

And the FAQ confirms that the Spyder only needs to be in range at the moment you activate the Subroutines. The effects last until your next turn even if the spyder is killed or the Wraiths move out of range.

But indeed Zahndrek is enough. With the Decurion, you don't have much need for superfluous characters, just the required ones will do.

I'm talking about the named characters that are used to make Deathstars.

Well that makes things quite a bit better. So really you only want to bring the other named characters if you are running something like Pylon-star or Lychstar?

Necron Deathstars are lame because none of them move very fast. Sure there's Veil, but you cannot charge afterwards

You are better off with 2 units of 5+ Wraiths or Prets than a single Lych-Star that can be avoided or tarpitted

Indeed, I'd stay away from a Lych star since it's too slow even if it's veiled.
Wraiths have always been the way to go for me. Prets are too fragile.

Well that sucks, Lychguard are some of my favorite units. So really the only great Deathstar Necrons have is Sentry Pylons with Focussed Death Rays. So really there's no point in having the special characters in a Decurion with just the Cult and Harvest.

Generally the list I'm looking for is 2 melee threats with shooty support, Warriors, Tomb Blades, Immortals, etc. Now I know their shooting isn't godly like Tau or Eldar but it's still good. I've got my Wraiths for one melee threat. Now I just need to figure out what else.

Just making sure, but you're aware Wraiths aren't really so much of a threat as they are a deterrent, right?
(Their primary use is tarpitting. If you want to kill things in melee, there are better options).

They are not killy but having your golden unit tarpitted 4 out of 5 turns can certainly be a very real threat to your game, but you all know that.

OP: How about having one unit of wraiths to handle heavy hitters and one unit of pistol pretorians to go after hordes? (not wasting your precious 3++ on those)

If you're going after hordes, just go all in and take a blob of Flayed Ones!

What is the best offensive (killing not tarpitting) melee unit for the Necrons?

The Imperium of Man: White Scars - 1200, Raven Guard - 110 pts, Imperium - 550 pts
Tomb World: Nameless Dynasty - 270 pts

It depends on what you want to kill, but typically the top spot would go to Praetorians, though Flayed Ones and Lychguard can be effective in the right circumstances. Scarabs are the only melee option that are generally considered garbage tier (unless you're going Farm... but that list hasn't been good for a while).
