I'm picking up a pile of plastic that has been collecting dust on my shelf and am going to try and turn it into an army. I really like Necrons, the fluff, the playstyle, and simplicity of the models. I generally don't like the all metal paint scheme though, the one exception is the red of the Novokh Dynasty. I lean more towards liking ceramic plated undead robots, though the mostly metal ones are faster to paint.

As a first attempt I painted up one of each. I'd like your thoughts. Which do you like better? What can I improve?

I'm not a great painter just trying to get a good looking tabletop army. The models/bases aren't totally finished (obviously) but they are close enough to get your opinion hopefully.

I like the left one better than the right one, so I would vote for lefty there.

Looks like a good, solid tabletop paintjob and think it will look great on the table when done!

Thanks!

I think I've settled on the ceramic look and feel. I've finished off the one and did a second one today. I'm using mostly old paints so it's simply Boltgun Metal and Bleached Bone with a Devlin Mud wash. The greens are the current common layers.

What can I improve on, other than a steadier hand on the details?

My freehand is horrendous and I can never make transfers work. I would love to do them any pointers?

I'm getting close to finishing my first full 10 man squad. After that will be a few scarabs. I'll post the first squad when they are done.

This just came today and I can't wait to put him together. I like the current Overlord model but he comes with a very obvious warscythe and orb. So I thought I'd go a bit retro for an OL with just a staff of light. And you can't get much more retro then the original space Tomb King! Since I'm going with a bone ceramic and metal color scheme what accent do you think I should use for the regal details? Blue or maybe turquoise? I think gold won't stand out sufficiently with the bone plates.

Here is the first full 10 man warrior squad. Trying to find painting time when my 3 year old isn't climbing into my lap asking to help "paint my guys" can be hard to come by so this is going to be a slow process. Though I just got him a pack of green army men to paint/play with so now we are working on our guys together..

So these warriors aren't decorated with glyphs or anything mostly because well 1) they are warriors and aren't fancy, and 2) my freehand sucks ! That being said what are your thoughts, and what can I improve.

Next up is my first attempt at scarab bases.

Next up is a unit of three scarab bases. I don't really like how the lenses turned out, it was my first try at them and I need to work on layering the lighter shades better. I would love any thoughts or suggestions.

Thanks, progress will be slow. And I am going to try a better camera to have more detailed shots.

Up next will be the old school Overlord.
