Need a good bit of help folks. I am just now getting into 40k. I've not played a single game and actually have only put together 1 40k figure so far. So there is my back ground. BUT, there is hope for me, I am ready to get to it.
So here is the scenario, my wife and daughter have been stockpiling Space Wolves for presents here and there for me and have amassed the below list (1 of each listed):
Space Wolves Stormfang Gunship
Space Wolves Venerable Dreadnought
Ironclaw Strike Force
Wolfguard Terminators
Wolflord on Thunderwolf
Space Wolves Fenrisian Wolf Pack
Space Wolves Wulfen
Start Collecting Space Wolves
Space Marine Scout Squad /Space Wolves upgrades
Space Wolves Long Fangs
Space Wolves Skyhammer Wolf Pack
So at this point I could really use a lot of help putting a 2k army together from this growing stockpile.
1. I am open to getting a few more kits if need be. I am open to trying some conversions if they are table top playable. (Saw a Nemesis Dreadknight converted into a "WolfKnight" that was pretty dang cool)
2. Local games at GW store as I am a brand new player so not grand tournament level or anything.
3. Don't have a strategy on how I want to play it because, well, I just don't have a clue. This will be what I learn the game with.
I love building and painting the models so that is what I am into at the moment but have always planned on playing. The local store has awesome staff and players so will have tons of help/support learning.
Lots of thanks for any help from the knowledge base out there, especially some Space Wolves vets!

Welcome to the ranks of Fenris Brother.
Building
#1 Get a Codex: Space Wolves and a Big Rule Book. Jump onto your smartphone and download Battlescribe. Look into Champions of Fenris and Curse of the Wulfen - Sons of Russ supplements.
#2 Wolf Guard Terminators suck hard on a tactical level. Leave them and the Wulfen until you're confident with your building - Wulfen for their part are just horrible to build - Kitbash the Terminators to stretch your Wulfen kits.
#3 Use the leftover sprues to practice painting.
#4 Google Images - Space Wolves, Pre-Heresy Space Wolves, 30k Space Wolves and Space Wolves demotivational posters.
#5 AoS chaos models make great Grey Hunters.
Have Fun.
Listmaking.
Use the Battlescribe app to make lots of them.
The main Space Wolves lists in big tournaments tend to be allied Deathstars or Wulfen/ Thunderwolf spam lists but on a casual level you will find the Space Wolves to be plenty flexible.
Again, "Have Fun".

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go. |

I should give a little amendment here, I have been building, painting, and playing AoS Stormcast Eternals. Placed at the Armies on Parade this past October. Humbly I will say I am comfortable and confident in the assemble and paint realm. I do have the Codex and Rule Book.
Very interesting on the Terminators, bummer to hear but glad I know now rather than post assembly and paint!
Thanks Dakka Wolf.

The Space Wolf start collecting package has a great formation within it. The Deathpack. This formation lets you run and charge in the same turn with your Thunderwolf cavalry which is just awesome.
Competitively, SW have four competitive builds. The top two incorporate allies extensively.
1. Thunderwolf Star - thunderwolf cavalry or characters mounted on thunderwolves supported by allied libraries conclave or characters attached to ravenwing bikers. Sadly, Dark Angels are a great ally for Space Wolves when looking at optimized combinations.
2. Wolf Star (aka bark star), again uses a mass of fenrisian wolves with Dark Angel characters attached, namely Azrael for the 4++ and ability to pick his warlord trait (FNP within 3" of an objective).
3. Ironwolves - the free weapon upgrades on the vehicles is really nice. The best way to employ this formation is to either max out speeders with free typhoons and multi-meltas or flood the board with tank shocking rhinos. If your meta doesn't nerf fulmination, electrodisplacement comes in handy as you push your rhino forward 12", disembark the blood claws, and then have a rune priest cast the power to switch with a unit of wulfen to get them up field quickly.
4. Blackmanes - in 1850 you can put near 20 pods on the board.
The wyrdstorm brotherhood is nice. The special power can really catch people by surprise.

Sorry about the assumption and congrats on the placing.
Now I'm looking forwards to seeing just how creative you can get with the Wolves.
Crouching Lictor - I'm surprised and delighted that you know the power of choosing Rhinos over Razorbacks in spite of the free weapon upgrade.
