There has been some debate in the past about the deathwatch models being a tiny bit larger than the space marine models? After taking a look at the models myself, I tend to be of the opinion that they are a bit bigger though very small. I was wondering if anyone has taken a look at the thousand sons and are they also a bit bigger than the standard marines and if we can see this is going to be the trend. Might be a little harder to judge though given the helmet quite different. Maybe the Legs would be a good starting point for comparison.

Comparing them to the BaC models would make sense.

BaC as in the tactical squad? Can anyone confirm the tact squad marines are same or slightly different size to the thousand sons?

Thousand sons are indeed bigger in the legs. I am on my tablet so browsing is. Impossible. But someone in the painting and modeling section shows them side by side. They are standing up straighter and a little bigger. Not much but a half of a space marine head taller.

Went through the forum and couldn't find the side by side comparison picture you were talking about. But does seem like the trend. Now I am wondering if the new assault marines got their legs enlarged too compared to the old ones since if my memory serves me correctly they were the most recent space marine infantry box that was released after the change to 32mm bases I believe.

Gw is changing the size of all thing lately. I haven't seen the new tzeentch thinies but my guess is that they will be the new marine size sized.

What do you mean by all things? Can you give me more examples of models that has their sized changed? Because I can only think of 2 off the top of my head. The thousand son marine and deathwatch.

Actually, they are noticably larger. Annoyingly so. It's so bad that I have considered getting rid of my old Thousand Son models because the old models look like midgets. If I can get around to it, I'll post a direct comparison. Sorry for the darkness of the pic, it was quick just to show the size difference.

Here's a full comparasion. Ahriman, Deathwatch Veteran, new 1k Son Sorcerer, old metal 1k Sons Sorcerer, plastic mkIV marine

Thanks for sharing the picture guys. Judging from your photo though it's a bit hard to tell though. Obviously the really old 1k Sons Sorcerer is really small but Ahriman looks the same size as the mkIV marine which I am assuming is from BaC. In fact he looks maybe even a bit shorter but that might just be because of his stance.

On the other hand Bach's picture shows that the new one is clearly a lot taller. I wonder if it's just the legs they changed though and if the legs are interchangeable. Or would you say the whole model is taller and wider?

If the TS were stood straight I would say that they would be bigger than the DW Marine with Ahriman being mahoosive, but it could be that they are closer than the DW Marine...

If you click the pic, it gets bigger and more clear. The 1k Sons new models are definately bigger than Deathwatch guys. Even if they stood up straight, they'd still be about a half head shorter. Ahriman is pretty big as well. His crouched stance makes him the same size as a regular guy, but if he stood up straight he'd be bigger.

I see. It seems like the size creep started with the Deathwatch models. I am probably not going to buy anything else until the next space marine models come out. Can anyone verify if the new assault marine models are larger than the older ones as well? I know the legs are now in 2 pieces but would imagine the torso are still interchangeable and largely the same.

I am starting to wonder now too if the vehicle like tanks will be resized as well in the near future.

Yep. Simple answer.

The plastic Thousand Sons are significantly taller than other Marines. There's two reasons for this.

The first one is practical - they're stood up straight. Every other Marine is crouching to some degree. This is because every other Marine is essentially a living being that would feel a lot of pain at their joints being that rigidly straight all the time.

The second is fluffy - Magnus was a very big boy. As such it makes sense that his 'sons', those who were given his geneseed would perhaps inherit some element of his size compared to other Marines.

But with regards to the old Thousand Sons hybrid kits?

My advice is simple - either mix squads with them in (50-50) so that they don't look too out of place. Or have whole squads of one type or the other. Don't be tempted to mix in the weapon options to existing squads else it will really look out of place.

If you go for the Squad A is X, Squad B is Y approach you'll likely need to convert the new weapon options a bit.

If you go for mixing them together then it won't be so bad.

Now only a CSM player.

Sure there are numerous examples. Nearly every GW release is slightly larger in size for as long as I can remember.
Extreme examples are bloodthirsters, and most vehicles. But most infantry models also slowly increase size.
