Howdie, been slowly working on acquiring the models to put together a solid 30k list, featuring everyone's favorite bad guys the Word Bearers. I have put together a 3000 point list (as that is common in my area's meta) that I think I can modify down close to 2000 points without changing the overall feel too much.

My goal with this list is to be competitive with some flavor, however I would still like to have some friends when I'm done (so taking 12 quad launchers with phophex isn't my thing). With that said I'd love to hear what you've got to say with any unit advise, tank options (haven't ordered my Venerators yet), flyer choice (not ordered either), loadout, and possible RoW that could fit that I'm missing.

The biggest weakness I see is your lack of scoring units. Two 10 man Tac squads will not let you hold objectives very easily and you will lose game because of that. Objectives are huge in 30k and with only two small units able to hold them you'll struggle in a lot of games.

You've got a lot of killing potential so you can just try to table your opponent as opposed to holding objectives. Not the easiest strategy but one you'll probably have to do with this list. You've got lots of anti tank and the Phosphex and Gal Vorbak Death Star will mulch infantry. It's powerful but you won't hold objectives easily and you'll be outnumbered a lot.

What would you do to increase the scoring potential of this list not reducing the killing power overall that much? Thought about adding some Ashen Circle or assault Marines as troops just not sure suggestions?

As for being out numbered i've been playing my Grey Knights since 4th so that's something I am quite familiar with. Thank you for the input look forward to seeing your suggestions

One way you could improve scoring potential is by opening up some more elites slots. Legion Terminators have Implacable Advance which is tantamount to ObSec. You could give your Chaplain some terminator armour and attach him to a big unit of them (I would prefer Tartaros for WB given that they can sweeping advance and Cut them Down lets you reroll sweep rolls of 1)

Then you just need to decide on a decent delivery system for them, Fluffwise the Serrated Sun preferred drop pod assaults so a Kharybdis will plop 10 termie models where you need them. Then you can assault out of it next turn, or you could take a Spartan as they are tried and tested as one of the toughest delivery platforms but they are slow and may not get them where they need to go at a critical moment. Thanks for letting me share my input.

EDIT: Also don't forget about Casper the friendly Mhara Ghal that just outright walks through 1" thick walls, amongst the other 20 or so cool rules it has that also happen to mess with psykers, plasma cant glance the FA, imposes fear at -2 Ld, and is -1 to hit if you arent T7 or higher in CC

Okay so I played around a bit.

Dropped the two Sic. Venerators and added a 5 man tartos terminators with PF & Combi-plasma in a Dreadclaw DP with Dark Channeling.

This also allowed me to take RoW Dark Brethren

The third squad to grab objectives is nice, and the ability to drop it anywhere to grab it will help a lot. Your opponent won't be able to ignore Terminators showing up on an objective. I like the list, lots of hard hitting infantry and Lorgar ascended with the Gal Vorbak will be a nightmare for your opponents. They will draw a lot of fire but that'll give your other stuff a break.

That was kind of the idea. My overall plan is to

A - Fill the Spartan with the Gal Vorbak, Lorgar, Chaplain (wish I could get him into one of my Tac squads) and Zardu (depending on the mission being played), point them at something I want erased and fire and forget.

B - Bring the Terminators onto an object Turn 1 let the 115 pnt pod absorb firepower for the turn instead of my terminators.

C - Rhinos - fan out take objectives, leave guys on objectives move rhino (if alive) to next objective (DT for Troops score ... correct?)

D - Attach Siege breaker to Quad guns, keep out of site and rain Phosphex down :-)

Planning on running Telepathy on Siege Breaker (hoping for Shrouding, and/or Invs, tbh I prefer shrouding only 1 WC these guys will be in some kind of over and no one complains); Biomancy on the Chaplain, Malefic on Zardhu (will now be bringing my Daemons with me) and Divination on Lorgar (Perfect Timing/Forewarning/Foreboding/Prescience-from psy focus). With Lorgar harnessing on a 3+ he should be able to pop off WC1 abilities with 88.89% using 2 dice, and his WC2 ability 88.89% of the time with 4 dice, letting him cast his payload when he wants.

I'm pretty sure dedicated transports don't score, just the troops. Malefic demonolgy bay help with the shortness of scoring units if you can bring in a squad or two of demons.

I know this may be counter productive but....

Lorgar can teleport those GV or the termies for that matter with his psychic.

With the points saved you could ally in some demons with a Herald. This will add more WC dice to your pool and give Layak a place to hang out in the back.

Even 3 phosphex quad's are spammy but I know its part of the game.

Not really worried about the DC's. I have a bunch of Daemons I could bring, however I kind of want to wait till the 8th book is out before bringing full compliment (don't want to be that guy). I will summon with Zardu but he's only WC 2; two rolls on Malefic plus primus (not sure if Psy focus counts in 30k, correct me if I'm wrong) may or may not work we'll see.

Regarding Psychic Focus, there is nothing in the HH material saying it doesn't apply, and since 30K plays with 40K rules, Psychic Focus is legit in 30K.

You do get the Psychic Focus as Jasper76 says above. Also Zardu is fantastic for bringing in demons. I typically put him with the blade slaves in the backfield and have him bring in reinforcements for those backfield objectives (where appropriate).

I don't know that there is a HUGE benefit to having him with the Gal Vorbak.

Rolls? Don't have my book handy but pretty sure Zardu selects his powers rather than randomly generates them.

Interesting. Never played it that way but it does say "has access to" on the other psykers and "may select powers from" on Layak.
