As I recall in the old fluff Guilliman didn't really do anything noteworthy during the HH but really shone in it's aftermath. Something about him being instrumental in keeping the Imperium togheter and "being everywhere in those dark days". With him comming back I find it a bit weird that we havn't really read about the time when he comes into his own, we only know of his time being mediocre.

His pattern of returning alive after being declared dead occurred often enough during Cain's career that the Munitorum made a special ruling that Ciaphas Cain is to never be considered dead, despite evidence to the contrary.

I don't think that he was mediocre at all. I think a lot of Guillimans problem is that he is the poster boy and suffers a lot for this. He accomplished as much, if not more, than any other Primarch.

In the Old Fluff the Assault on the 500 worlds took place the same time as the battle of Terra and it's what kept Guilliman away, having to deal with Kor Phaeron and the Word Bearers that weren't with Lorgar on Terra. This version makes pretty much more sense to me then the Unremembered Empire arc.

No pity, no remorse, no shoes

It's worth noting during the great crusade Gulliman was arguably the most sucessful of the primarchs, others may have conquered more (although that seems to be debated from source to source) but Gulliman laid the best foundations (well except literally, then that was Dorn ) I honestly doubt we'll see much chance of Gulliman shining, the few HH books that have focused heavily on politics (unremembered empire for example) have often been dismissed as "dull" which is sad as honestly I find that stuff more intreasting then the bolter porn that most 40k novels are.

I just suspect that we won't see much of the post Heresy materiasl, although I'm sure you could write a few good novels about the personal conflcit between Gulliman and Dorn

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

HH might have been less so since he was manouvered out of field. During GC ultramarines racked up largest number of planets conquered though. So he shone pre-HH and post-HH.

Nah once HH novels end(in maybe 20 years) what you think BL would write next that has lots of marines?-)

Well okay GC could be option as well. But I think they will release books about post-HH as well unless time runs up and BL ceases operation before they get that far.
