Hi team,

I was just wondering if anyone has used any of the necron pylons in game and what they thought of them in 40k?

I'm considering getting one but wasn't sure which one would be a good idea. I see the gauss pylon is a lord of war with 3 zapping D shots. Holy hell. And interceptor! That thing must be brutal!

The sentry pylons can be used to good effect, I'm currently building mine up right now. The best being the focused death ray. The idea (if im not mistaken) is to get a gang of them, with anrakyr and obryn, and use the ghostwalk mantle turn one to blink them up the board. Then, because anrakyr confers relentless, you shoot the beams, which have a 24" +3D6" effective range, and every unit hit by the line gets 2x S10 AP1 hits for every model under the line. So as an extreme example, 3 units get hit (you got the max 18" range) and there is 15 models under the line. Each unit gets hit with 30 S10 AP1 hits. Can be a brutal alpha strike.

Havent seen or heard much about the D pylon however, so cant comment on it. I'm not 100% sure on the rules, but battlescribe says it has skyfire. If this is correct it means it can only shoot things in the sky at full BS, everything on the ground you have to snap shoot at.

Just had a thought. This could be a pretty good, albeit expensive, answer to all the FMC deamons out there atm? Good way to negate the rerollable 2++ on some of the DP's?

The sentry pylon, as already mentioned is the star of our most competitive list. (The Pylonstar, which utilises 2-3 sentry pylons, obyron, anrakyr and various other HQs and upgrades in a single deathstar unit)

The Gauss Pylon has skyfire. Meaning, versus demon lists, it might be good. Versus any other list, it's 400+ points absolutely wasted, so most people shy away from it. Its rules were written before Skyfire got nerfed and it wasn't updated.

It also has the Gauss Flux Arc for ground targets, and an aura of 5+ invul save. Still super spendy, but can be useful against anything with flyers, FMC, jetbikes, or skimmers.

Be aware that FAQ clarified beam weaponry so that every unit the lines touches will not be taking the exact same number of hits.
If the line crosses 3 models in Unit A and 5 models in Unit B, then Unit A will be taking 6 hits and Unit B will be taking 10 hits.

Skoff is correct in that, that is how the ITC rules it. That said, I played Pylonstar for some time, and it can indeed be a very successful, competitive list. Just realize it has extremely good AND extremely bad match-ups.

Deathstars will have a horrific time against you, but lists which can lock it into close combat on two occassions will ruin your fun. :-p

Oh thanks Skoffs! Didn't know that, and it did seem a bit extreme the way it appeared initially .
