Subject: [1850] - Blood Angels - Competitive Deep Strike List? Feedback Wanted

Blood Angel Neophyte Undergoing Surgeries
|
This is my take on a competitive Deep Strike Army, based on the idea of getting into melee combat without giving the opponent an opportunity to shoot my troops at all (except for overwatch).
Force One: Golden Host:
- Commander Dante [Warlord] - 220 Points
- 5x Sanguinary Guard - 175 Points
- 3x Encarmine Swords
- 1x Encarmine Axe
- 1x Power Fist
- 5x Sanguinary Guard - 165 Points
- 3x Encarmine Swords
- 2x Encarmine Axe
Force Two: Archangels Orbital Intervention Force:
- 5x Assault Terminators - 225 Points
- 5x Thunderhammer / Stormshield
- 5x Assault Terminators - 225 Points
- 5x Thunderhammer / Stormshield
- 5x Assault Terminators - 225 Points
- 5x Thunderhammer / Stormshield
Force Three: Flesh Tearers Strike Force:
- HQ: Sanguinary Priest - 75 Points
- Jump Pack
- Chainsword
- Troops: Scout Squad - 70 Points
- 5x Sniper Rifle
- Camo Cloaks
- Fast Attack: Drop Pod - 35 Points
- Fast Attack: Drop Pod - 35 Points
- Fast Attack: Drop Pod - 35 Points
- Fast Attack: Assault Squad - 145 Points
- 5x Assault Marines
- 2x Melta Gun
- Infernus Pistol / Chainsword on Sergeant
- Melta Bombs on Sergeant
- Drop Pod Transport
- Fast Attack: Assault Squad - 145 Points
- 5x Assault Marines
- 2x Melta Gun
- Infernus Pistol / Chainsword on Sergeant
- Melta Bombs on Sergeant
- Drop Pod Transport
- Fast Attack: Land Speeder - 75 Points
- Heavy Bolter
- Typhoon Missile Launcher
Total Points: 1850
Tactics:
The Terminators ride in the three empty drop pods. Everything is held in reserves except for scouts and Land Speeder. Sit scouts out of Line of Sight, or in ruins for a 2+ cover save when going to ground or in night fighting. Land speeder will be out of line of sight as well so that it won't be shot at.
Turn one, terminators come down in their drop pods. I'll try to tuck them among enemy lines so that if they scatter, their pods will keep them near enemies. These terminators are going for anything big such as Imperial Knights, Wraithknights, or Riptides. Depending on how many targets I have, I will double-team them with multiple units of terminators as needed. Since they may charge off the deep-strike, they should have a relatively easy time getting into combat and being tied up in combat.
Turn Two, the Golden Host comes in. They should make easy work of infantry of all flavors, and again, charging off the deep strike with only d6 scatter, rerollable. The assault marines may come in as well, going for enemy armor, although they are not critical.
At this point, by turn two, I have picked the 5 biggest threats in the opponents army and tied them down or eliminated them. This should reasonably handle eldar windrider spam, Tau riptides, or any other major shooty army.
Comments? Let me know. I'm looking for feedback on this list to see how to improve it and make it more lethal.

I like your list. I m still not 100% sure that thing with the drop pod and terminators is legal, we'll see what the FAQ will say very soon I guess.
Beside that, I would find the 10 points to add a power fist to the second sanguinary guard squad. Additionally, I personally like more to go either with 2x Swords, 2 axes and 1 power-fist or all axes but 1 PF. The 2+ should allow you to survive until the moment you have to fight back and rape xD.

Do you not need 5 drop pods to get three in on turn one? Re the Termys in the OIF arriving T1 in drop pods, the rule states they can charge on the turn they arrive from deep strike. There is nothing that says they cant charge if that DS is via drop.pods. it will be faqd if an faq happens. Probably

There are 5 drop pods in the list. At least from what I've read, when in Pods, the terminators will come in Via Drop Pod Assault rather than their own rules. Therefor, the three units of terminators will come in turn one.

They do and they will. It's still pretty expensive for three disordered assaults, and so I think it's quite fair.

I've been seeing a lot about this formation. I hope they make it legal, because that would be cool. I'm a fan of (a) terminators and (b) assault terminators specifically. If this is viable I would work blood angels into my army because I_LOVE_TERMINATORS.
But as written it is not allowed.
The rules specifically say:
In the Movement phase during which they arrive, Deep Striking units may not move any further, other than to disembark from a Deep Striking Transport vehicle if they are in one...In that turn’s Assault phase, however, these units cannot charge. This also applies to units that have disembarked from Transports that arrived by Deep Strike that turn.
So while the formation grants the benefit to the terminators which are arriving via deep strike reserve, disembarking from a transport which arrived from deep strike reserve expressly prohibits assault.
I hope i'm wrong.

It says they may not charge, but the codex says they may. Codex overrides BRB.

Cant ride on allied transports sir.
The orbital force doesn't really need all that. Bring some flyers to give yourself a reserve bonus aswell as some anti-air and you can surely bring your guys in by turn 2 and get your assault on.
Give those pods locator beacon and put assault marines without jump packs in them drop in and draw fire then the terminators arrive with no scatter near drop pods and get an easy assault.

They're not "allied", it's all blood angels faction. You can definitely share transports across same faction detachments. (Flesh Tearers are just BA of a different colour).

Space Marines allow you to do that with chapters within that book.
Flesh Tearers count as battle brothers to blood angels but I believe it is not the same as when using a diff chapter tactic form the SM codex.
Make sure you confirm the legality of riding flesh tearer pods.

The Pod thing is more of a grey area than most.
Not obviously allowed and not obviously disallowed.
As marmatag said, does being allowed to assault after deep strike override not being to assault after deep strike-transport?
Personally I would use like chapter banners on my Sanguinary Guard.

I stand corrected on flesh tearers.
I still think you shouldn't be able to put them on pods and get your assault off. You are mixing two conflicting rules there from my point of view.
The terminators assault when they deep strike in. You are adding an extra element when you fit them in pods that don't have that same rule and that explicitly prevent units disembarking from it from assaulting.
I'd argue that the one deep striking is the pod not the unit inside, that's why when you disembark them you don't need to place them in a neat little circle around the first model as per standard deep strike.

Well. apparently it's legal in ITC. I don't think the rules conflict at all, and after all the shafting BA have taken since the end of 5th, I'd have to insist in a game for it to be allowed. It's a pretty high risk maneuver anyway, so I don't see it as a balance problem.

High Risk?
How is arriving from deep strike with no scatter and being able to assault high risk?

It's really not that bad.
Having played against a OIF in pods, it was strong, but he could really have assaulted the units I let him Aka, Kabalite warriors.
Then they proceeded to die like bitches to shooting.
-
Meh.
I think its legal.
Drop Pods are open topped- so they are assault vehicles.
The OIF lets you assault from deep strike reserve.
Drop pods come on via DSR.
OT- The list looks really good.

edit - i'm wrong. I quoted a Grey Knights FAQ here: https://www.games-workshop.com/resources/PDF/Errata/Warhammer_40000/Grey_Knights_EN.pdf But Grey Knights don't have access to drop pods in the first place so it doesn't shed light.
