Hi Dakkanauts,
In my FLGS, a guy is wanting to sell his Necrons to me, as he isn't really feeling the army any more, and he enjoys the Imperial forces more (he's always been a IG player, so he's gone back to them!)
So, I'm thinking of buying his models, as he's willing to sell 25 warriors, 9 scarab bases and 2 ghost arks for £70, which is a good £40 saving. He's been more of a player than painter, so his miniatures are simply painted with one thin coat, and mould lines not removed. The build quality is very good, so I'm not worried about that.
I'm wondering how easy it would be to remove the most glaring mould lines, repaint the miniatures (he's gone for the standard Necron colours, as am I, but with a few little changes) and base them.

Shouldn't be too hard, but if you're really worried about the paint quality a soak in Dettol (the brown stuff) and a good scrub can clean paint off metal and plastic, leaving the mould lines and details clean for your own work.

I'm doing my own thing because it's fun. And it takes longer, which means more entertainment value for my cash. So there |

Well, I didn't know Dettol antiseptic did that! This is the stuff, right?
How long of a soak would I need, and thanks again for the brilliant tip!

I swear by 90+% isopropynol now for stripping. No smell or residue. Should be able to scrub clean after an hour soak. If you leave it overnight it's guaranteed to mostly rub off with your fingers.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

It's easier to strip and repaint than to remove mould lines and try to touch up.
As above, soak in Dettol and start afresh

That looks about right! I usually put em in for a couple of hours or overnight, you have to scrub/rub them in the dettol, don't rinse until it's off as water seems to make it tacky again. Also I recommend using gloves or a toothbrush or both as the stuff stinks and you'll smell of it for hours if it gets on your skin.

After I spent an hour or so brushing paint off Dettol-soaked models I lost a layer of skin off my hands. Gloves are good.
