I usually run a exterminator with a lascannon and plasma sponsons. It's not too expensive and can threaten most things.
The exterminator cannons are a threat to transports and flyers, the twin linked helps with the BS of 3 and preferred enemy will help to wound most infantry.
The plasma sponsors will provide some more S7 hits and provides some AP2, meaning it's a threat to most big things, blobs of infantry as well as anything with a 2+ save. Also the preferred enemy will help with the gets hot rolls.
And the lascannon is for dealing with vehicles, adds a little more ap2, but can probably be left off if you need to save some points.

Like Minus said, the Executioner is a good option, although I run mine with Heavy Bolters all round to make the most of volume of fire. It's also quite cost effective, which is helpful for me running a mechanised army.

I was actually talking about the Exterminator (twink linked auto cannons) rather than the Executioner (multiple plasma cannon blasts). But you're still right, the Executioner is still a good pick.

Confusing myself with the names, I was meaning the Exterminator too. Although the FAQ on gets hot and templates has since changed, the original draft FAQ urged me to swap out the Executioner for an Exterminator.

IMO the Executioner is the best LR all around. Punisher is normally garbage but pask makes it good - Pask in an Executioner is probably still better though.

I share your opinion on the Executioner being the best tank, but I'm not sure I agree about Pask. He gives the Executioner the alternate blast and Old Grudges, but he doesn't change what the Executioner is already good at; he just makes it somewhat more reliable. On the other hand, Pask transforms the Punisher from a decent anti-infantry option to a huge threat to anything on the board. BS4, Rending, Preferred Enemy, and Crack Shot are more or less ideal upgrades for the Punisher Cannon. The only downside is you're still stuck with the 24" range.
As far as Pask's escort, I'd almost certainly go with the Exterminator, since it helps the Paskquisher do what it already likes doing: piling on wounds. Most things you're shooting with Pask you won't mind shooting with the Exterminator, and when you don't there's always "Gunners, Kill on Sight!" Personally I would probably field the Punisher and Exterminator completely stock (aside from Pask), with just the turrets and hull heavy bolter. I might even take two Exterminators as an escort. But I generally prefer more hulls to more upgrades.

Yeah I agree with you about the sponsons for sure - they aren't really needed except on pasks tank. I usually take hull Laz just because it's nice to have and isn't to expensive.

if you are going to be running Pask as your warlord you will want to take an Executioner to take advantage of the rerolling 1s. Might as well take plasma sponsons, its not too much more and the chance of getting hot is greatly lessened.
