Somewhere in the dark...

The Wargear options for these guys lists amongst other things the choice of a paragon blade. I understand that a paragon blade is already a thing that a select few HQs can take. But the Haetaron guard are just elites, albeit very, very elite and there is also a custodes weapon called a paragon spear which is also an amazing weapon with a really cool bolter strapped to it.

So, I'm confused about this. It seems odd that they could take a paragon blade which isn't listed as custodes Wargear anywhere and is usually only given to HQs. Then again, the paragon spear is also an amazing weapon so either way the whole squad can be tooled up. Just wondering whether you, Dakka, think that listing a paragon blade is an error and should really be a paragon spear or whether they can actually take a paragon blade?

For a bit of context, the generic custodes HQ can only take a paragon spear and not a blade. For me, it's about modelling these guys correctly.

Personally I think they meant the Paragon Spear, but we'll have to wait for an FAQ to clarify. It's why I've not yet made a Haetaron Guard Squad.

Isn't a Paragon Spear decidedly superior to a Paragon Blade?

And since Paragon Blades are described as any one of a myriad of weapons, a Paragon Blade could well be a spear.

They are my bulwark against the Terror. They are the Defenders of Humanity. They are my Space Marines, and they shall know no fear.

Its the same as a Paragon Blade standing still, so S+1 AP2, but on the charge its S+2 AP2. It also has an 18 inch Ap3 Heavy Bolter. A Paragon Blade can infact be anything, but since it is a special weapon for the Custodes that is really good, people obviously want it for the Elite Squad that is supposed to represent the Emperor's Companions who are the best equipped.

I agree with this take. Likely meant to be Spear. Wish they would have had the FAQ ready on release day.

That would have been good. Of course with how many delays the book had they could have just got it right the first time. That would be asking for too much though I think.

And just because I am looking through Inferno now... you got to love when they miss a chance to rectify simple stuff... like the Victory Conditions auto-loss crap. SIGH.

My point being;

Since a Paragon Blade (their current option) can be modeled as anything, model it as a Paragon Spear. If they decide to keep it blades, you're fine. If they FAQ it to spears, still fine.

In that case it works.

I also think that it's meant to be a paragon spear. Glad the general consensus seems to be the same.

On the modelling aspect though, eventually FW will release proper models for them so it won't matter in the long run.

Im not so sure if that will be the case, as it seems like most everything they have that is based on the basic Custodian uses the plastic kit. The Sagittarum Guard look like just an upgrade kit, and with how the Companions aren't very different from the others I dont even think its likely they will get an upgrade set, beyond maybe Solarite Gauntlets and Lightning Claws, that will also work for the Sentinels. Differentiating them might come down to giving them all Cloaks.

I'm doing their plumes in different colors. What I need is more shoulder pads. I've magnetized all of my arms, but if I can't get more shoulder pads, then options don't help.

Different color plumes would certainly be a good way to differentiate, perhaps also different colors for the leather on their arms as well?

Can't help you with the shoulders, its kinda odd for GW to have a kit where there aren't extra shoulders.
